The function:
This is a permanent- 40 hrs a week function located in Hamilton. this function will involve weekly payroll processing. About 700 to 800 hourly paid employees will be paid over a two-week period, 30 salaried employees to be paid fortnightly. The total payroll expense in excess of $7 million pa. There will also be complicated leave entailments, Paid statutory days & alternative holidays for part-time employees. If you know you have significant practice to handle the high volume and to lead a team, I would like to hear from you.
Responsibility :
• Taking leadership abilities of the team- advising on best practices and legislation when processing leave/timesheets, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and business rules, support the team providing cover in case of absences, assist with leading the payroll staff as required to meet deadlines.
• Assist in all payroll processes across all payroll systems used to process the standard and non- standard payrolls, perform timesheet data entry and verification in a timely manner, Import Panztel everyday logging information, process transaction exceptions, to process additional pay items (training, mileage, supervision, etc), check overs and unders, correct late ring ins from support workers, report all other errors, work on the corrections, matching each correction to the manual log calculate the final pay
• Payroll authorised through the bank
• Payslips sent to employees
• Handling enquires about payroll and resolution of queries as necessary
• Filing is up-to-date and records are maintained per statute.
• Check that templates for payment are correct, ready for authorisation to occur
• Reset templates and pay external agencies
• Any other payroll tasks if/as required
• Understand up-stream and down- stream processes and interdependencies
• Ensure Staff and Service Administrators are up-to-date with any changes and requirements for the payroll system and processing
• Keep management informed of payroll hours paid each week
Qualifications & practice: Required
• NCEA Level 3
• 3-4 years’ practice in payroll processes and database administration.
• Administrative qualification
• Aptitude for leading a team, strong interpersonal and team expertise
• Strong client/service/quality orientation
• Effective and demonstrable problem-solving expertise
• Methodical, organised workflow practices
• Detailed focus
• Commitment to continuous improvement
• Working expertise of Payroll Legislation
• Higher than basic level of Excel expertise
• Desire to participate and add value to a changing business
