About our group and team GAVC – Graduate Achievement Vocations and Careers We lead strategy, policy and performance analysis for Tertiary and International sectors to support a productive, inclusive economy and international linkages. We develop policy about vocational expertise, access pathways, international education and student financial support. We manage the Ministry’s international engagements and cooperation agreements. This position sits in the Tertiary Sector Performance Analysis team within the GAVC Group. This team aims to ensure that tertiary education achievement and system performance is backed by evidence, and that policy and strategy decisions are made using the best possible evidence. The team is committed to making tertiary data and high level analysis available as soon as possible after Information technology has been received. This data and more in depth analysis is released on the Ministry’s Education Counts website. About this function As a Senior Research Analyst you would support this work through your expertise and practice in data analysis, research and dissemination. You are data savvy, familiar with data analysis and research techniques and enjoy innovative ways to improve the communication and translation of research and evidence. You can deliver sophisticated analysis, interpretation, reporting and dissemination of results to policy makers and researchers. In particular, you are able to present this material on our research website, Education Counts. About you We are seeking for a curious, determined, data focused researcher. this function provides privileged access to national datasets allowing you to explore problems in depth to assist the team and our policy colleagues to deal with long standing issues. To be prosperous in this function, you will have a public service ethos and be prepared to put in the work to help deliver the education system New Zealanders deserve. You will also offer: » advanced Excel expertise and medium to advanced SAS expertise » strong expertise in data presentation (using tools such as Tableau and MS BI) » the capability to understand and communicate with our policy colleagues » the capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga You will be part of a team of 12, all busy, using multiple and advanced techniques to further explore tertiary education and other data.
