Surfsup New Zealand has been offering kayak and stand up paddleboard (SUP) tours in Whangamata since 2015. We offer tours of all levels and abilities to Whenuakura (Donut) Island.
As a small company, we pride ourselves on the capability to provide unique, authentic and intimate practices in the area. Our dedicated team of professionals has an abundance of practice and expertise of the local ecology, cultural history and waterways, and we work closely with the community, Iwi, council and schools in the area.
We have an opening for a new staff member for the Summer 2023.
The function available requires a personable, energetic person, able to relate to customer with all sorts of backgrounds. With a passion for the ocean and tourism, the perfect candidate will be working independently and at times in a team.
This position offers the possibility of a long term contract or permanent position according to the development of the business, performance of staff member and qualifications

Notes:           &nb sp;            & nbsp;            - Special opportunities for Certified Kayak Guides and Commercial Skippers.
            &nb sp;            & nbsp;             ;         - Lunch break is 30minutes after 4 hours of work.
            &nb sp;            & nbsp;             ;         - Report to management at end of each day.
- Most of our kayak guided tours are 2-3 hours
- We work weekends and public holidays

Payment:           & nbsp;     Time sheets must be filled by every Monday and credit will be make by every Thursday.

Key functions                      &nbs p;            &n bsp;                         &nbs p;            &n bsp;                         &nbs p;            &n bsp;                         &nbs p;            &n bsp;                         &nbs p;   
 
   »   Administration
o    Answer emails and general questions of customers
   » Maintenance
o    Certify all premises and equipment are in current order
o    Make any necessary improvements to ensure the quality and safety of services being offered
   »Kayak Guides
o    Act as an environmental cultural ambassador for Whangamata Islands
o    Introduce customers to the basis of Ocean Kayaking including safety briefing
o    Offer customers comments about environmental and cultural allowing customers to fully practice the local life style
o    Be safety cautious, paying special attention to customers’ needs
o    Follow and eventually improve the company`s procedures in order to ready and good beyond customers’ expectations
   »Commercial Skippers (only if you have that qualification)
o    Follow all safety procedures including pre-checks
o    Keep vessel cleaned and maintained
o    Assess risks and keep a record on log book
o    Safety briefings and weather check
o    Outstanding customer service
   »Bookings
o    Take bookings over the phone, online and direct
o    Perform payments: direct credit, payclip, cash
o    Insert and read bookings on Google calendar
o    Inform Managers and guides/instructors about everyday bookings
   »Sales
o    On floor sales of gear and tours or lessons
   »   Health and safety
o    Follow all safety management policies and procedures.
o    Take such care as is reasonable and in conformity with sound professional practice.
o    Take any action required to ensure the level of risk is kept at an acceptable level.
o    Take all practicable steps to identify, assess, and manage hazards and risks.
o    Report any unsafe work conditions, practices, or equipment as soon as possible.
o    Report incidents and assist in their investigation if they are high severity incidents.
 
 
General requirements by order
 
   » Sea Kayak Level 1 certification or SRL certificate
   » Able to drive in NZ (Drivers license)
   » Take Customer as the most important part of the job
   » Have basic expertise about outdoor gear including surf, sups and kayaks
   » Be able to close sales
   » Happy to execute activities outdoors
   » Be able to communicate with other staff members in a clear and professional way
   » Basic expertise of Microsoft Office
   » capability to work under pressure
   » Organized
   » Be drive with a trailer
