Ng? T?ngata Tiaki o Whanganui Trust (Ng? T?ngata Tiaki) is the Whanganui Iwi entity responsible for implementation of the Te Awa Tupua Whanganui River Settlement, which focuses on the health and wellbeing of the Whanganui River and the social, cultural and economic development of the uri, wh?nau and hap? of Whanganui nui tonu. Ng? T?ngata Tiaki also holds approximately $100 million worth of assets on behalf of Whanganui Iwi within a group structure designed to protect and maximise the growth of the assets.
The Ng? T?ngata Tiaki Group consists of:
   » Te Ngakinga o Whanganui Investment Trust;
   » Whanganui Iwi Fisheries Limited; and
   » Te Whawhaki Whanganui Iwi Development Trust
In undertaking its responsibilities Ng? T?ngata Tiaki is guided by Tupua Te Kawa, the innate values of Te Awa Tupua:

Te Awa Tupua is a singular entity comprised of many elements and communities working collaboratively.
The Chief Executive agent - Ng? T?ngata Tiaki o Whanganui Trust is responsible for the delivery of the objectives as set out in the strategic plan and provides high performance leadership abilities to effectively lead and manage the operations of the Trust and its subsidiaries, ensuring that the Trust's policies and strategies are implemented.
The function will have a strong focus on building and maintaining effective and prosperous relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to maximise the benefit for Te Awa Tupua and Trust beneficiaries. You will develop and implement strategy that furthers the objectives of the organisation. This will include implementing the Te Awa Tupua settlement to ensure deep value and cultural change across multiple agencies, through the promotion of Tupua te Kawa, for the health and well-being of the awa. You will also work alongside Te Ngakinga O Whanganui, Whanganui Iwi Fisheries Ltd and Te Whawhaki Trust to explore new opportunities in business and strategic partnerships. You will foster and maintain effective working relationships with key individuals and groups from the wider Ng? T?ngata Tiaki Group and community groups.
Reporting to the Chairperson of the Board, the position takes an organisation-wide view. As well as maintaining oversight of the day to day operational management, you will have a perceptive knowledge of the need for changes and improvements across all operations and service delivery. Developing and implementing initiatives that will achieve positive and sustainable transformation, you will have managed organisational change at a senior level and have the skills to work via a continuous improvement lens.
Providing a robust framework for the interface between governance and management, including clear delegated authorities, you will have thorough knowledge of the constitutional principles and legal processes that underpin the post settlement environment.
Naturally, you will have confidence in analysing key drivers, opportunities and competitive advantages to develop strategies to benefit the business, and keep current with market information via networking, affiliations and connections.
Standards and criteria for candidates include:
   » Minimum of 6 years senior management practice.
   » Knowledge of te reo me ?na tikanga.
   » A tertiary degree in a significant field or equivalent knowledge, skills and practice.
   » An capability to manage assets and risks, and skills in monitoring and evaluation of internal and external factors and trends.
   » The practice and knowledge to translate organisational strategy into operational results.
   » Strategic planning and reporting practice.
   » Financial, contract and project management skills.
   » practice leading organisations with an inspired vision and sense of purpose.
   » Significant people leadership abilities and mentoring practice.
   » practice operating in a bi-cultural environment and knowledge the dynamics of working within a post treaty settlement entity.
