Education plays a critical function in promoting and supporting the wellbeing of children and young people.The Ministry promotes a holistic approach to wellbeing for children and their wh?nau. As part of this approach, we are implementing an alternative model of counselling in selected schools, with skills provided from outside the education sector. Are you passionate about supporting the mental wellbeing of tamariki and wh?nau in schools?
Community provision of counselling in schools
At least 130 schools involving around 21,000 ?konga will receive access to counselling support from the community sector. Counselling will be tailored to the different needs of schools and integrated with a wide variety of wellbeing supports in the school environment.
About our group and team
Ministry of Education staff are charged with shaping the education system to create excellent and equitable results. Our teams around the country work closely with the Early Childhood and Schooling sectors, providers, and communities to facilitate support, skills and resources to help tamariki and rangitahi reach their full potential.
The Performance and Quality team support and enable the work of our regional staff to deliver effective services. This includes working alongside others to develop and implement new initiatives, lead workforce development through the provision of professional development and induction, managing contracts and funding for the sector, and providing data analysis to support continuous improvement. We work with others from across the ministry both locally and nationally.
About this function
The Lead Advisor Wellbeing will work closely with Ministry staff, community providers, schools, and communities to establish the counselling initiative in selected schools in your region. The Lead Advisor will build connections to other wellbeing supports in schools and the community. Once the support is established, the focus may include the implementation of other wellbeing initiatives.
The Lead Advisor will:
   » manage relationships between schools, providers and other key stakeholders to identify service priorities and provide regional oversight for the management of contracts with providers
   » lead on establishing and implementing the counselling initiative across selected schools in your region
   » share information across diverse stakeholders to inform quality programming and improvements
   » support the integration of quality counselling services in diverse school environments and build connections with other wellbeing supports provided in schools and the community.
About you
You will bring your practice working on other wellbeing initiatives, particularly with younger children in the school environment. Your strength will be your capability to manage relationships across multiple stakeholders to establish new initiatives in diverse environments. Your added value would be your networks with M?ori and Pacific communities. You will have excellent project management skills, with the capability to deliver projects on time and be flexible to respond to the changing needs of communities as they emerge. As a Lead Advisor you will have a passion for working with schools and Ministry staff to support an inclusive education system that meets the needs of all ?konga.

   » Actively support healthy and productive relationships between schools, Ministry staff, communities and providers to achieve the best results for ?konga and their wh?nau
