The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) is seeking an innovative and highly practiced person to lead our new Child Wellbeing and Poverty Reduction Group. We are bringing our child poverty and child wellbeing units together as we enter the next phase of our work. Having established the child wellbeing and poverty reduction strategy and legislative framework, we must now embed them, support the system to focus on the things most likely to make a positive difference for children and young people, and influence change and drive across the system.
Reporting to the Executive Director, you will:
   » Provide strategic leadership abilities and overall management oversight for the delivery of high quality, high value advice on child wellbeing and poverty reduction matters
   » Establish and provide effective leadership abilities and management of the child wellbeing and poverty reduction group
   » Embed and consolidate the child poverty measurement and reporting regime under the Child Poverty Reduction Act
   » Drive the implementation of the Child and Youth Wellbeing Strategy, developing a sense of joint ownership of the Strategy with communities, iwi and M?ori, NGOs, and government agencies
   » Lead and co-ordinate interagency and external collaboration, including influencing wider government policy development to support child wellbeing and poverty reduction.
Our ideal candidate will bring :
   » A detailed knowledge of child wellbeing and/or child poverty reduction is highly desirable.
   » Demonstrated leadership abilities and management practice, building high performing teams and a positive and inclusive culture
   » Strong policy design and implementation practice. An in-depth knowledge of the public sector and government processes, especially in policy making.
   » Strong influencing and relationship expertise, quickly building rapport, credibility and trust, working collaboratively
   » Strong public sector foundations, including a thorough knowledge of the obligations of the Crown under the Treaty of Waitangi and expectations of M?ori related to this work
   » Demonstrated capability to execute with resilience, quickly adjusting and adapting to changing or ambiguous conditions
