Polynesian Health Corridors is a five-year programme of work that aims to comprehensively strengthen and supplement linkages between Polynesian and New Zealand health systems (especially Pasifika health professionals and providers). The programme will contribute to stronger health systems in Polynesia leading to better health results for people and communities in Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands, Niue, Tokelau, and Tuvalu.
As our Principal Advisor you will work with the Polynesian Pandemic Preparedness Workstream Lead to provide objective analysis and advice to support the workstream. You will work with multiple agencies and countries, alongside the workstream leads and their teams, to ensure that plans to support Polynesia are comprehensive, well planned, and are being well managed. We are seeking to build on our prosperous vaccine rollout to the Pacific, and work with the countries to strengthen their pandemic preparedness and health systems in response to COVID-19.

Essential practice, expertise and qualities:
   » Tertiary qualification in health or significant field and/or equivalent practice in the health sector
   » Strong written expertise and an capability to take complex information and synthesise into key message for significant audiences
   » Previous practice working strategically and applying critical thinking, as well as sound judgement, in the development of options and provision of advice
   » A thorough knowledge of public policy and the machinery of government, with a demonstrated knowledge of political-administrative processes and structures
   » practice in collaborating and brokering with other stakeholders to achieve desired results, particularly in cross-agency programmes
   » Proven organisational expertise with the capability to think ahead, use initiative, establish priorities and meet deadlines whilst preserving high levels of accuracy and confidentiality
   » practice in working at a senior level on matters relating to pandemics preparedness, population health or public health
   » knowledge and recognition of Pacific Islands peoples’ and Polynesian countries’ health issues and the connections to Pacific communities in New Zealand
