About this function:
Reporting to the Manager Building, you will provide day-to-day leadership abilities and operational management of the Building Inspection Team enabling them to succeed and deliver high-quality, customer-centric services in a complex work environment.
The function is a blend of people management and service delivery within the building inspections function. The primary focus is the effective management of the team of Building Inspections and the delivery of the significant work plan, to ensure the timely inspections of buildings required by this accredited Building Consent Authority and assist with other Territorial Authority functions.
You will provide technical, and best practice advice on building inspection matters along with undertaking building inspections to ensure that you continue to grow your own competency and support the team. With some exciting new infrastructure projects that will require complex inspections, there is an opportunity to share an interesting workload across the team, that will support the continued development and growth of competency levels.
Through exceptional time management and expert organisational expertise, you will manage the delivery of inspection services supporting the current capable, highly reliable, collaborative, and unified team. Resilience, stcapability, and genuine leadership abilities character traits are sought for this key position. ?Collaboration' will be your key mantra, not only engaging and contributing to the Building Inspection team, but also with customers and colleagues across Council to achieve results.
About you:
You will bring exceptional team building, management, and leadership abilities expertise, with a coaching and mentoring style, excellent interpersonal communication along with sound judgment and problem-solving abilities. You will have demonstrated current technical building expertise, with prior practice in residential and commercial building inspections, and have a thorough expertise of the NZ Building Act, Building Code, BCA Accreditation Regulations, and other legislation.
You will possess a significant tertiary qualification such as the National Diploma in Building Control Surveying, Bachelor of Building Science, Architecture, Engineering or Construction, or similar, including NCAS competencies R1-3 and C1-3 preferred.
this function can flex to suit a Team Leader that is already operating at this level within a consultancy or within another NZ Council looking to escape to the regions, or a Senior Manager (looking to return to a hands-on technical function with staff management responsibilities), or this is a great opportunity for a Senior Building Inspector or Control agent ready to take the next step in their career, enabling you to retain your technical competencies and develop your career with leadership abilities and mentoring.
