We have several opportunities in the Civil and Constitutional Unit within the Justice Policy Group for Policy Advisors (Level 2).
The Electoral and Constitutional policy teamplays an important function in advising on the constitutional systems which are the foundation of our democratic society. Our electoral work looks after the processes by which we choose our elected leaders. Our constitutional work covers privacy rights and information sharing protections, as well as our constitutional arrangements and democratic structures, and our Te Tiriti partnership. We are also responsible for supporting open government and accountcapability structures, such as the Official Information Act 1982.
The Civil Law and Human Rights Team is responsible for a wide array of policy and legislation. Information technology has a unique function in protecting and upholding human rights, reporting to the UN on New Zealand’s core international human rights treaties, and working with other agencies on the human rights impact of policy proposals. On the civil law side, our work covers issues such as property, trust and succession law. We are interested in candidates with a strong interest in either or both of these areas.

To be prosperous in this function you will:
   » have strong relationship management expertise, working to build and maintain relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders, both learning from and influencing their perspectives
   » be able tothink analytically and critically, find complex problems interesting, and have a knack for solving them.
   » be an excellent communicator, able to write clearly and simplify complex information, and ask questions to improve your knowledge
   » be able to apply a Te Tiriti framework to policy thinking
   » take the initiative to go beyond the immediate task, problem or issue, and apply sound judgement.
An knowledge of the machinery of Government, and practice with the legislative process would be an advantage, but is not essential. We would also consider a lawyer looking for a career change.

The current appointing income for this function is between $77,128 and $108,887, located on expertise and practice.
From 1 June 2023, the appointing income for this function will be between $81,128 – $112,887, located on expertise and practice.
