About our group and team
Learning Support is a critical part of the Sector Enablement and Support Group in the Ministry. We are charged with leading the education sector in ensuring that children and young people with additional learning needs are supported to achieve their full potential through education.
Our Learning Support specialists work closely with families, wh?nau, caregivers, schools and early childhood educators in English and M?ori medium settings and other agencies to help maximise learning results and promote social inclusion.
The PB4L Team provides support to schools, early learning services, parents and non-government organisations to strengthen relationships and create more positive home and school e nvironments whilst helping to remove barriers to engagement and learning.
About this function
As a Psychologist or Special Education Advisor you will work within the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) team and within the wider Learning Support group.
   » Train and support educators to implement the PB4L School-Wide framework
   » Deliver and support a range of parenting and teacher programmes within theIncredible Yearssuite of programmes (training provided).Collaborate/co-work with other Learning Support practitioners to enhance wellbeing and learning behaviour systems in schools and early childhood education facilities
   » Provide professional support and guidance to school leaders and educators to build their knowledge and capacity to support the learning and behaviour of children and young people
   » Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with a range of professional partners, community and sector groups and support agencies to ensure that services are coordinated and effective
   » Collaboratively assess, plan, and monitor the implementation of evidenced informed individual (or group) intervention plans for children their families and educators
   » Work as part of a trans-disciplinary team where an education facility or individual child’s needs are complex
About you
To be prosperous you will need the following:
   » A availability to lgain and convey essential elements of evidenced located frameworks including but not limited to PB4L-School Wide and Incredible Years
   » capability to translate specialist knowledge into practical information using training, coaching and mentoring
   » capability to co-ordinate Learning Support service provision in a multi-agency, trans-disciplinary setting
   » Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal expertise and an capability to work effectively with children, young people and their families and educators across a diverse range of settings
   » A availability to work in a strengths focussed, ecological way in complex problem situations
   » Excellent content knowledge and confidence to convey this to groups of educators in a teaching/training context
   » The capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga
   » Psychologist: A Masters level tertiary qualification and a post-graduate Diploma in Educational Psychology or equivalent and hold a current practicing certificate with the NZ Psychologist’s Board and at least two years of post internship practice as a psychologist
   » Special Education Advisor: A Bachelor of Teaching (or equivalent) and/or Post-graduate Diploma in Special Education/Educational Psychology
