This is an exciting time to join the Ministry as we continue with comprehensive environmental reform and respond to climate change.
We are seeking for a practiced and driven Kaitohutohu M?t?mua/ Kaitohutohu ?-Ture Matua /Principal Legal Adviser and Senior Solicitor with Te Ao M?ori, tikanga and Te Tiriti o Waitangi practice who want to join our team to support this exciting work programme and our other areas of work.
A particular focus of these functions is on supporting the reform programme by providing advice to others on Treaty of Waitangi/Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations, Treaty settlements and governance considerations in relation to claimate change and resource management law (including considering a reformed resource management system).
You will provide key analysis and advice on the potential impacts of policy proposals, engagement with M?ori and the function M?ori will have in a reformed resource management system. You will be confident in delivering advice in a range of formats to a range of clients, including internal leaders, external groups the Ministry engages with and Ministers.You will support the growth and development of legal team members and other Ministry staff.

Our ideal candidate for each function will bring:
   » a law degree
   » a current NZLS practising certificate (or current eligibility to obtain one)
   » expertise and practice of Te Ao M?ori and tikanga
   » expertise and practice of Treaty of Waitangi/Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations and settlements
   » practice in resource management and/or climate change law
   » practice in legislative development and drafting process
   » excellent analytical expertise and a proven capability to apply legal concepts
   » strong stakeholder management expertise with the capability to influence at all levels
   » proven capability to effectively manage competing priorities and tight time frames.
Specific litigation practice, and practice engaging effectively with iwi and hap? would be desirable.Specific expertise or practice of planning or consenting processes from a local authority perspective or compliance and enforcement would also be desirable but is not a necessity for this function.
Wh?nuitanga Utu ?-Tau | income range
income range for the Senior Solicitor function is $114,872 to $139,510 pa.income range for the Principal Legal Adviser function is $159,491 to $194,044 pa.
Appointment within these ranges will be located on expertise and practice.
