Te ?huatunga a te t?ranga – About the function A unique opportunity has arisen within the Office of the Chief Justice, Te Tari Toko I Te Tumu Whakaw?, for a person to lead the next phase of an exciting and innovative Pacific-led programme which aims to promote a reliable, prosperous and resilient Pacific through support for the development of accessible, fair, responsive and efficient justice systems. The Pacific Justice Sector Programme (PJSP) is a multi-jurisdictional initiative guided by the Pacific Chief Justices’ 15-member leadership abilities Forum, which includes Aotearoa New Zealand’s Chief Justice Winkelmann in her capacity as Chief Justice of Tokelau. The programme encompasses a wide variety of services and activities spanning mentoring, professional development and technical training, through to enhancing human rights and gender and family violence responsiveness. An important objective of the programmes is to support relationships between mainstream and Pasifika justice systems in ways which increase access to fair and high-quality justice for vulnerable people. As Director you would need to apply and build cultural competence that sustains a genuinely inclusive Pasifika approach, working with a team spread across New Zealand and Australia, and with geographically remote partners. You will work closely with the Deputy Director leading a small hands-on team of subject matter experts and contractors who deliver programmes through the sharing of knowledge and practice, brokering relationships and access to skills, developing programmes and services which respond to country-specific needs, and providing specialist technical assistance. He p?kenga tou – Skills and practice To be prosperous in this function, you will have: » practice and knowledge in prosperously developing and delivering a Pacific-led work programme, operating effectively at a senior executive level » a proven track record in providing advice and developing enduring relationships of trust and confidence with senior stakeholders, prioritising a Pacific context » a demonstrated capability to function model Pacific best practice by facilitating and delivering high quality, culturally appropriate and co-designed solutions » a demonstrated knowledge of the judiciary and justice sectors in New Zealand and/or the Pacific; and/or practice of inter-governmental co-operation » a proven commitment to working under the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and working with M?ori, Pacific Peoples and other ethnicities and cultures » a significant tertiary qualification.
