About our group and team
this function is part of the Business Group Finance Team within Business Enablement and Support (BE&S) and is the dedicated finance support to the Te Rito Programme.
Business Group Finance are the “customer” face of finance. We support the various business groups within the Ministry by providing accurate, timely and expert financial advice, information and analysis to help the community make timely and informed financial decisions, manage financial performance and be accountable for public funds.
The Te Rito Programme aims to enhance effective teaching, reduce workload, help address inequities, expand and create learning opportunities, better understand student needs and potential, and provide the capcapability to serve increasingly complex teacher and student needs. Information technology is a multi-year Information technology programme that requires dedicated finance support to ensure that the programme has accurate, timely and expert financial advice, information and analysis to assist the Programme.
About this function
this function focuses on delivering effective customer service, financial planning, evaluating financial performance and providing insight, improving financial controls and transactions.
To deliver an effective service and develop solutions to problems, the function will utilise a deep knowledge of project financials (Operating and Capital expenditure, asset management, costing models and impacts onto future budgets); knowledge of public sector financial management frameworks, processes, and systems; and financial acumen and professional judgment.
this function will contact with and utilise specialist teams in Finance to ensure the Ministry meets its statutory financial obligations, to deliver value to the Te Rito Programme, and ensure quality and consistent advice and practices.
The function reports to the Finance Manager Corporate, with day-to-day reporting back to the Te Rito Programme Manager.
About you
We’re looking for an practiced programme accountant with excellent communication (both oral and written) who can provide effective financial support and sound advice; has a good knowledge of financial control and project governance; isn’t afraid to be in the detail but can balance that by not losing sight of the big picture.
To be prosperous in the function, you’ll be working collaboratively with key internal stakeholders and developing relationships at all levels. You’ll be communicating through high quality reporting and written advice. You’ll have a continuous improvement mind-set to help us improve our processes and deliverables to meet our customers’ requirements.
You will also offer:
   » Tertiary qualification in finance, commerce or business
   » A CAANZ, CIMA or CPA qualification
   » Five years practical project or management accounting practice
   » PMO, project practice, some Information technology practice, and knowledge of Information technology terminology
   » The capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga
