Kia ora koutou! We are seeking for a Senior Policy Manager extraordinaire to lead our International policy team and contribute to this important part of New Zealand’s COVID-19 response and recovery. This opportunity is one of two international functions being recruited within the international division and leads our work on policy and strategy for international education.
this function would suit an practiced people leader, who has strong policy leadership abilities capcapability, excellent relationship management expertise, and public sector practice in a policy management or an advisory function. International education is a high-profile area and we work in a cross-agency environment alongside student, provider, and sector representatives. You’ll enjoy this job if you’re an agile operator, creative problem solver and driven by putting the learner at the centre of policy advice. Oh, and did I mention no two days are alike?
We have some big deliverables – the International Education Strategic Recovery Plan and the International Education Strategy 2018 – 2030 – offering a great opportunity to utilise both your strategic and pragmatic policy nous. There are exciting opportunities to roll up your sleeves and put your mark on policy advice about the value of international education to New Zealand, student well-being, sustaincapability and diversity for the sector and (future) student outbound mobility.
Reporting to the Group Manager International, you’ll lead a team of committed policy analysts. An important part of the function is an capability to be aware of and sensitive to diverse cultures and peoples, as you traverse policy advice impacting on international students in the New Zealand education context and offshore. There’ll be opportunities to advise Ministers and senior leadership abilities on international education matters and strengthen your reputation as a dynamic policy leader.
You will also have the chance to add broader value, being part of a Ministry that is passionate about lifting equity and excellence in education and keeping the Treaty of Waitangi’s guiding principles core in our work. We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds, including M?ori, Pacific, and those with disabilities, and strong cultural competence is an advantage. Above all, this function is ideal for an enthusiastic self-starter looking to lead and join our close-knit and hardworking team and continue to shape this disrupted sector through COVID-19 and into the future.
