About our group and team
Evidence, Data and Knowledge group (EDK) – We create high quality evidence to inform policy and practice.
The Analytics and Insights (A&I) team is responsible for undertaking research, evaluation and analysis which supports the Ministry’s early learning and schooling policy and operational functions to determine what works well and not so well for learners. The team works across the organisation to promote the effective use of evidence and ensuring the Ministry’s educational priorities fulfil government objectives and meet the needs of stakeholders. The team leads the work and advice on overall education priorities and performance by ensuring pathways and systems from early childhood to the workplace enable students to achieve to the best of their capability.
The Analytics and Insights team uses a national and international data, from a range of sources including nation al and international surveys, administrative data and qualitative methods. Information technology will focus its permanent resources on priority pieces of work and will also support other pieces of analysis, research and evaluation that are contracted out to external organisations.
About this function
This is an exciting opportunity to work with a diverse and creative team of evaluators, data scientists and researchers to have a positive impact on the lives of New Zealand learners.
As Senior Evaluator, you will undertake complex evaluations to support an improved knowledge of the education sector. You will work with internal clients to conduct and coordinate analysis, research and evaluation activities to advance the Ministry’s educational Policy development, planning and evaluation, i.e. undertaking and commissioning strategic and operational research, evaluations and other core services per Ministry priorities.
You will contribute to raising evaluative capcapability and promoting the effective use of evidence by delivering high quality analysis, research, evaluation, and providing high quality advice so that the Ministry, early learning providers, schools, education professionals, parents, learners and communities can put their efforts in the right place in the right way at the right time to enable learners to succeed.
About you
To be prosperous, you will need to have the following:
   » Excellent written and oral communication expertise including negotiation and facilitation expertise and practice communicating technical information to a non-technical audience
   » Tertiary qualification in a significant field such as, research, social science, science, economics, public policy or other related discipline
   » capability to navigate complex political situations effective and efficiently to function under pressure or in situations which are highly ambiguous
   » Knowledge and knowledge of significant professional research and evaluation codes and standards and the ethical issues involved in releasing sensitive information into the public arena
