About our group and team The Data and Information Stewardship group (DIS) is responsible for developing and executing policies, practices, procedures and technology to manage the data and information lifecycle to deliver on the needs of data and information for users of the information. The group champions the management of safe and appropriate use of data and information for better decision making. The Information Management team is responsible for leading Ministry thinking, design, advice and practice for the trusted collection, use, management and sharing of Education data. This includes delivering advice and services to the Ministry, our partners, and directly to the sector. About this function The Principal Advisor is responsible for thought leadership abilities, expert advice and relationships that underpin the Education Sector’s confidence in the collection, management and use of data and information. The Principal Advisor will develop key capcapability across information governance and data use and will be a visible leader and change agent for trusted and high value Education data. About you We’re looking for a passionate and enthusiastic thought leader in the rapidly evolving space of data governance, ethics, transparency, and sovereignty. You’ll have a solid background in information, privacy, or policy development, and understand that delivering real world data solutions means building trusted relationships. This is a varied and challenging function in complex and compensateing Sector. You’ll enjoy working with a wide variety of stakeholders and experts to understand needs, explore options and influence results with Education Data. We’ll count on your expert advice to shape, frame and design our data journey using a diverse and inclusive approach. To be prosperous in this function you will offer: » strong influencing and relationship management expertise, being able to quickly establish rapport and trust » practice in embedding best practice data stewardship and information governance approaches into complex environments » engaging and high-quality communication expertise, including for written advice, policy development, and other formal communications » working knowledge of emerging issues around data sovereignty, ethics, transparency and the appropriate use of data » the capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga.
