Government has ambitions to significantly improve the safety, quality, resilience, accessibility, and performance of three waters services, in a way that is efficient and affordable for New Zealanders. This is critical for: public health and wellbeing; environmental, economic growth and other results important to all New Zealanders. Government also wants to ensure Information technology delivers on Treaty-related obligations, including by improving results for iwi/Maori in relation to three waters service delivery.
As one of three Policy Mangers in the Three Waters Group, you will manage a team of policy advisors working on the policies, legislation and regulations needed to give effect to government's high profile and ambitious programme of three waters reform. Your work will be critical to the success of the three waters reform and the future performance of our water services, the results of which will make real differences to the health and lives of all New Zealanders.
As a Policy Manager, you'll be responsible for building and maintaining a capable, multi-disciplinary and high performing policy team. You'll work as a member of our Three Waters Group in a fast-paced and well-resourced environment in which you will apply your knowledge of people management and public policy to the management of policy staff working to inform government's reform of the three waters system. You will have the capcapability and practice needed to grip up and manage policy projects and to mentor and support the policy staff through development and delivery of policy advice, development of legislative drafting instructions and application of policy to the work needed to implement major reform.
Reporting to the Director Policy and Stewardship, Three Waters Reform, you'll be part of the policy and stewardship management team and will connect to other policy managers across the department.
The function is a fixed term function through to 30 June 2023, by which time the brunt of policy work is expected to be completed and the continuing functions of the Department decided. You will bring proven practice as a people manager and policy professional, with the capcapability to manage delivery of an important policy work programme within agreed time and resource constraints.
The Manager will also influence others and have opportunities to lead and/or support Department-wide initiatives, projects and interests on behalf of the Local Government Branch.
