Ko wai m?tou? – Who are we?
The largest collective in the New Zealand fishing industry, Iwi Collective Partnership (ICP) is a collaboration of iwi commercial fisheries entities from around the North Island. As a limited partnership we manage Treaty fishing rights for the benefit of iwi limited partners. ICP is exclusively iwi owned, governed, and managed. Since establishment in 2010, we have grown from 12 to 19 iwi partners, distributing 100% of profits back to those iwi. After a decade of success we are now looking for someone new to lead the next chapter.
Te ?hua o Te T?runga – The nature of the position
This executive level position reports to the Board and will appeal to candidates who possess broad business and commercial acumen combined with a mix of iwi, and private sector practice.
Exploring opportunities for revenue growth, investment and acquisition is within the position remit. Through your honed, influencing skills, you will help to grow the number of iwi limited partners, and to finalise the new strategic plan. The position demands practice working as part of a new start-up venture or within a business growth discipline.
Developing and advancing opportunities for research and innovation in the seafood and marine space, you'll become a subject matter expert, and overarching as a leader in your field, you will understand the process of ?how to' develop commercial ideas and opportunities into real investments.
You will have exceptional and proven strategy development acumen able to assemble all the external operating arena factors, risks and opportunities both domestically and internationally, skillfully craft these together to map out a strategy and direction that offsets risks and realises new value, create opportunities and build organisational capcapability and partnerships; and lead a team to realise the new strategy. An knowledge of the issues around the fragmentation of iwi M?ori fisheries assets, the opportunity for collaboration, and an knowledge of the special nature of M?ori fisheries assets as Treaty settlements is highly desirable.
Adhering to concepts such as whanaungatanga, whakapapa and manaakitanga you will foster an environment where people work together with ease and knowledge. Focusing on the organisation working as a team rather than separate business units, you will proactively build positive working relationships with people at all levels within the public sector, private sector and M?oridom; with the intent of furthering the organisation's strategy. Approaching challenging situations with the objective of reaching win-win solutions, you will understand the nuances of the fisheries political environment and consider them in all decision-making.
Providing senior management skills and leadership abilities to enable others to undertake functions, priorities, and commitments to ICP, you will be creating clear, and understandable accountcapability frameworks. Leading the strategic advancement, you will provide vision, leadership abilities, guidance, and support to your direct reports, peers, and will also be superviseing adherence to tikanga practices.
Ng? tino P?kenga/Wheako – Essential skills/practices for the function
Skills knowledge and practice required for application will include;
   » Naturally utilise Te Reo M?ori in your work and communicate with M?ori audiences adhering to tikanga and kawa alongside an in-depth knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi.
   » Have broad and influential networks all over te ao M?ori.
   » Exceptional commercial acumen, ideally with skills in growing and diversifying a commercial business or venture.
   » Ideally, an knowledge of M?ori commercial fisheries but will consider candidates who have broad commercial/primary/investment significant sector practice.
   » broad, comparable practice managing at a GM or CEO level of business.
   » A solid people leader, with broad senior leadership abilities practice within complex systems and organisations.
   » Strong negotiation and concise decision-making skills.
   » Financial management skills, including risk management, budgets, fiscal plans and forecasting skills.
   » An excellent report writing skill set and practice to analyse and interpret complex information such as legislation, policy, financial, quality and service performance results and recommend action for enhancement.
   » Demonstrated capability to be highly persuasive in situations where strong opposition or potential conflict exists.
   » Able to demonstrate the proven capability to work collaboratively to develop and grow relationships proactively.
   » Able to think outside of the box, eager to find new ways to bring about innovation and change.
