There is also a lot of exciting change ahead as we move rapidly towards co-governance and the establishment of M?ori Wards. To support us as we go forward We are seeking for an practiced Kaihono Take M?ori / M?ori Engagement Adviser to work across our organisation supporting staff in ensuring Council's obligations to M?ori are met through proactive engagement with tangata whenua and input into the continuing development of culturally appropriate policy and processes.
The prosperous applicant will also provide advice which is focused on both preserving and strengthening relationships and partnerships with Mana Whenua and M?ori communities across the district and as a member of the M?ori results Team, provide Cultural and Tikanga advice to Council staff as a key component of the M?ori Capabilities Strategy. Your effective facilitation expertise will also enable you to effectively deliver training on the M?ori Capabilities Strategy and Cultural Competency Framework building on Tiriti relationship matters and te reo me?natikanga.
To be considered for this opportunity candidates will also have proven capability and access to networks that enable them to provide support to hapu partners in building capcapability and capacity of their organsiations to engage in Council processes and decision making.

   » practice working with iwi and hapu and M?ori communities preferably within Te Tai Tokerau
   » knowledge of cultural competency frameworks and training
   » Confidence to deliver in a variety of environments where work may be carried out including marae, Council Chambers etc
   » Excellent presentation expertise with the capability to develop and deliver training
   » Proficiency in Te Reo M?ori and excellent knowledge of Tikanga M?ori (desire to lgain te reo as part of the position will also be considered)
   » Excellent knowledge of M?taurangaM?ori with the capability to communicate M?ori perspectives and values to non-M?ori audiences
   » Significant knowledge and practical application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in a local government setting
   » Hands on knowledge and practice of local government and its legislative responsibilities to M?ori
