Long Cloud Youth Theatre is a unique training and production company for young actors aged 16-25 years. Entering its 17th year in 2022, the Company gives young actors the means to enhance their theatrical expertise through practical performance practice and the opportunity to work with Wellington's foremost directors and tutors.
Commitment
The Long Cloud Youth Theatre board are looking for emerging artists who want to educate and enrich the lives of Wellington youth, while also upskilling their own artistic practice. A minimum 2 year commitment to running the P?neke located youth theatre outfit Long Cloud Youth Theatre, with a maximum commitment of 3 years. This is considered a job of approximately 20 hours per week, excluding technical weeks in lead up to Long Cloud Youth Theatre productions.
Reports To
The Artistic Director will report to an established Long Cloud Youth Theatre Trust Board of Hannah Clarke, Stella Reid, and Anya Tate-Manning.
Job Overview
Long Cloud Theatre Trust is seeking dynamic candidates for the function of Artistic Director. This is a unique opportunity for an artist under 30 to lead a theatre company that celebrates and elevates young voices and perspectives both in programming and company culture. this function is open to practitioners from any background or practice level but the ideal candidate will be passionate about:

Leading an ensemble of young people in the disciplines of theatre craft in both practice and performance.

Fostering collaboration, leadership abilities, and communication expertise within an ensemble environment.

Creating work that is theatrical, innovative and significant to young people and the Wellington community.

Responsibilities and tasks
For Long Cloud Youth Theatre's Artistic Director, running rehearsals is the tip of the iceberg. Producing, organising, sourcing prospective students, accruing funding, and training is as much a part of the job as the productions. To help with the logistics of production, Long Cloud Youth Theatre will also search for a producer function to sit alongside the artistic director (this function is funding dependent). Responsibilities and tasks of the Artistic Director include:

Maintain a company of at least 15 students through three terms each year through open communication with students, growing the company through auditions in term breaks, and curating the online presence of Long Cloud on social media

Produce three public Long Cloud Youth Theatre productions each calendar year which includes locking down Wellington performance spaces and applying for funding for these productions through Wellington City Council and Creative New Zealand.

Run rehearsals 3 times a week (e.g. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 6pm - 9pm)
   »
Manage payment of $150.00 per LCYT student per term
   »
Manage use of rehearsal space

Remuneration
This is a paid function. Long Cloud Youth Theatre has confirmed funding to May 2023, with applications for funding after this time currently submitted and awaiting notification. The function will be supported by the board at a governance level including with writing and submitting funding applications and building networks to support the company in its strategic development.
