Te Poari Whakaora Ngangahau O Aotearoa (Te Poari) | Occupational Therapy Board of New Zealand is the regulator of Occupational Therapists in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Their function is to protect the public interest by registering Occupational Therapists, setting standards, ensuring compliance with those standards and taking action where concerns are raised.
In 2020, Te Poari formally agreed to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi explicitly all over the organisation. They recognise that they are a small organisation within the health sector but are striving to be leaders in creating a health and discapability system that is fair and equitable for all. Their mission is to ensure that people of Aotearoa receive competent and culturally safe, high-quality occupational therapy services and practice.
Reporting to the Chief Executive and Registrar, you will be responsible for the development and maintenance of policy, standards and guidelines as well as assessing, managing and advising the Board on any risks pertaining to te Poari. Your function will be to provide sound, thoughtful and regulatory policy advice and solutions that deliver on te Poari legislative intent, supporting te Poari strategic priorities and overall purpose. Core functions include:
Policy Analysis & Development
   » Develop and maintain policies, standards and guidelines, ensuring they are significant, fit-for-purpose, relate to the HPCAA and other legislation and support the functions of the organisation
   » Assess and analysis of notifications to inform better policy development, professional practice, and te Poari decision-making and effectiveness
   » Translate and interpret legislation or policy changes into regulatory operating policies, procedures and guidelines.
Risk Analysis
   » Assess and advise on the impact of changes to legislations, risks and trends pertaining to the occupational therapy profession and/or interest and intent of te Poari
   » Analyse, report and advise on risks to existing interpretations of legislation, policies, standards and guidelines, identifying criteria for assessment and making recommendations.
Advice and Support
   » Support effective decision-making by the CE, and colleagues within the team, including through any internal committees that may be established, on regulatory policy issues
   » Contribute to the analysis of complaints, conduct or competency trends to identify issues and opportunities for te Poari to address public harm and improve te Poari regulatory practice and impact
   » Act up for the CE when required.
In addition, you will build and maintain significant relationships with key stakeholders as well as lead te Poari ePortfolio bi-yearly review and engage in special projects such as how information technologies can inform the te Poari and the profession.

Person Profile :
   » A significant tertiary qualification and/or health professional qualification
   » practice working in a health or regulatory environment and/or knowledge of the HPCCA would be highly advantageous
   » Sound knowledge of the policy development process (research, review, writing)
   » Highly developed written and verbal communication expertise
   » capability to synthesize information and deliver reporting to support decision-making and add value by way of recommendations and advice
   » Strong attention to detail and demonstrate critical thinking
   » Strong relationship building capabilities
   » Self-motivated and able to work well in a team as well as independently and autonomously with minimal supervision
   » Familiarity with te Ao M?ori and te reo M?ori, and an continuing commitment to personal development in these areas
   » The capacityto work comfortablywithin a te Tiriti led organisation and to support their teTiritiimplementation plan
   » Proactive, friendly, consultative and open style with a ?no surprises' approach
   » capability to interpret and translate complex or technical legislations, policies and information into layman's terms
   » Effectively manages time and demonstrates a proactive and disciplined approach to planning and work prioritisation
   » Confident with technology and proficient with MS Office Suite and databases
