Korero mo te turanga – About the function
Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a permanent, full-time Discapability and Inclusion Adviser to join the Te Amaru Discapability Services team. The function of Discapability and Inclusion Adviser is to work alongside students to determine their discapability related needs and provide quality advice, access to services, information and coaching to assist them to fulfil their academic aspirations. They also collaborate with university staff to increase staff knowledge of discapability inclusive approaches that will assist students to fully participate and succeed in their studies.
Key Job responsibilities:
   » Conduct a strengths-located assessment of the discapability related needs of students in relation to study and full university participation
   » Support the wellbeing of students through prioritising pastoral care including the active case management of students with high needs and students of concern
   » Take a multi-disciplinary approach to student support working closely with other student services, academic staff, halls of residence, and external agencies
   » Foster academic achievement in students through monitoring academic results, promoting realistic workloads and identifying strategies that support success
   » Work effectively within a managed diary, whilst prioritising urgent needs in a dynamic environment
   » Support University staff to create an inclusive environment by proactively taking opportunities to expand their knowledge of discapability inclusive approaches and apply these in courses or services provision
O pumanawa – About you:
   » Commitment to application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in an educational context
   » An practiced allied health professional with university degree, current registration and practicing certificate in social work
   » Demonstrated capability in needs assessment and case management
   » practice in working with people with a discapability (including mental health) and/or people who are deaf
   » Respect for the lived practice and skills of disabled people
   » practice in producing clear written and in-person communication
   » Strong organisational, administrative, written and computer skills
   » practice and interest in working with Maori, Pasifika and Rainbow communities
   » practice in working respectfully and actively with people who are distressed
   » Knowledge and knowledge of discapability inclusive strategies and approaches
   » practice in persuading others
   » Proven practice in providing a high quality client service
   » practice and adaptcapability in client management and record keeping software
this function requires safety checking through the police vetting system under the Vulnerable Children Act 2014.
