This is a part time 0.5FTE function, so you will have a chance to really make the most of a work/life balance. We practice undifferentiated internal medicine here in Southland with a 38 bed medical ward and 6 bed critical care unit, covering the Southland, Queenstown and Te Anau regions. Sub-speciality support is provided predominantly by Dunedin Hospital, though we do have subspecialties within our team. You would join a team of 8 physicians working the acute roster, providing both inpatient and outpatient services. There is ample opportunity to participate in our departmental teaching programme which amounts to 4 hours each week, and we have close links with the University of Otago as evidenced by the number of students that train here. For physicians who are dual trained there is opportunity to accommodate continuing sub-speciality practice. Forget everything you thought you knew about Invercargill! Here the people are renowned for their warmth and hospitality, this little city still has a great sense of community where people matter, you will see this in the tight knit family feel amongst staff at Southland Hospital. There is space in abundance and you are surrounded by national parks and you will find yourself at the doorstep to the Catlins, alongside excellent access to Milford, Te Anau and Queenstown. Excellent schooling is available and free fees at the local Polytechnic!
