AUT’s School of Public Health and Interdisciplinary Studiesis committed to growing the M?ori and Pacific academic workforce, upholding te Tiriti o Waitangi and contributing to improved M?ori and Pacific health results. We have an ethnically diverse team but wish to continue to strengthen our M?ori and/or Pacific capacity. With an addition of a M?ori /Pacific team member this enriches our current curriculum redevelopment work and would enable us to contribute more significantly to existing and new research endeavours in our area. We believe we have a proven track record of manaakitanga that is supportive. This appointment will allow us to engage in more team teaching and allow more of our M?ori and Pacific students to have M?ori and Pacific teachers through the course of their programmes.
The function
This is a great permanent, full-time opportunity to become a Lecturer and develop your career in teaching, research and service, whilst having the support of Eke Tangaroa – AUT’sM?ori and Pacific Early Career Academic Programme. The prosperous appointee will be located at our South Campus and ideally be able to commence their new function 28 June 2021 (in time for the start of Semester Two – 12 July).
OurSchool of Public Health and Interdisciplinary Studiesis seeking a M?ori or Pacific scholar with skills within Health and the Environment, Public Health, Emergency Management or Maori and/or Pacific development or education. We are flexible as we are an inter-disciplinary team!
Lecturers teach across programmes as agreed with the significant Head of Department; we embrace practice-led, as well as research-informed, approaches to teaching where the student practice is optimised. You will also publish actively in your specialised field – research is well supported within the School. Over time you’ll also seek external research funding, engage with government, business, the professions and/or the community, and contribute to School/Faculty activities.
You’ll join an open and highly collaborative group that supports the growth of its people. Our team is one with research depth and rich possibilities in relation to possibilities to collaborate and co-author with colleagues within our wider whanau. Research and protected writing time is part of the culture of our team. Several of our team are in leadership abilities functions in research centres. Colleagues work is cited in policy documents, utilised in course reading lists across the country and informed innovations in practice. Staff are called on to provide expert media commentary, evidence to Waitangi Tribunal hearings and before United Nations human rights committees. Our team is well connected, and colleagues sit on a range of industry advisory groups and hold leadership abilities functions within professional bodies. We have also contributed to the establishment of an AUT branch of the NZ Public Health Association, this network now has 100 members and is organising a range of outreach events with industry.

Making an application
We welcome applications from suitably qualified candidates of M?ori or Pacific genealogical descent. Please submit your full CV, along with a cover letter that outlines your interest and potential suitcapability for this function. Key criteriaas follows:
Qualification/practice:
   » A PhD/Doctorate ideally in either public health or emergency management, or Maori and/or Pacific development or education
   » PhD/Doctoral graduation must have been within 3 years of application to this programme. Alternatively, current PhD/Doctoral students will have submitted their completed thesis for examination before starting their function.
Research and Teaching Interests:
   » Ideally within Maori or Pacific health and development. skills in te reome ona tikanga would be advantageous.
Previous academic employment:
   » This must be your first full-time, permanent academic position in either a university or other tertiary education provider. You must also have no more than 5 years fixed-term contract academic practice (in total) in a university or other tertiary education provider.
Start Date: You will ideally start by 28 June 2021. Interviews will take place end of May/start of June, appointments are then expected to be confirmed mid-June.
