Help shape the future of education
At the Ministry of Education, we work together to shape an education system that delivers equitable and excellent results.
Our organisation is made up of more than 3,000 talented and committed people around New Zealand, from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures.
While we work in different groups and on different things, we all strive every day to make the biggest difference we can for every child, young person and adult student in our education system.
About our group and team
The Investing in Educational Wellbeing team is part of the Te Puna Kaupapahere – Policy Group. The team works across the Ministry to ensure our strategic investment priorities and budget approach deliver improved wellbeing results for children and young people in education. Our work recognises that child and youth wellbeing is linked to the wellbeing of parents, caregivers, families and wh?nau. We are often involved in cross-government work streams and work with non-government stakeholders. Our team prioritises the development of learner and wh?nau centred advice to improve practices and results for those that are traditionally under-served by the education system such as M?ori, Pacific, disabled, rainbow, refugee and migrant learners and wh?nau.
In addition to our strategic priorities, our team also leads the policy work on Free and Healthy School Lunches, period products for schools, and social cohesion. We have a high visibility work programme, and we work on issues affecting a huge system and directly impacting the lives of New Zealanders.
We are a team with shared values, each leading work across a wide variety of work streams. We make a real, positive difference for our children and young people, and their families and wh?nau. We are solutions focussed, work collaboratively, and are supported to take opportunities for development.
We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where a diverse range of people want to come, to stay and do their best work. Diversity is more than a commitment, Information technology is the foundation of what we do.
About you
In this function, you will bring a solid background in thought leadership abilities and strategic advice. You’ll have excellent written communication expertise. You will be responsible for making sure work is progressing on a day-to-day basis internally and with other agencies. The function is highly collaborative, so you will be required to form sound working relationships with colleagues and staff all over the Ministry, as well as forming good networks and relationships across other agencies. Individual cultural capital is also important as a lot of the work involves engaging with people from different walks of life.
Are you ready to make a difference?
We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds, including M?ori, Pacific and people with disabilities, who will enrich our knowledge of the education system.
As a government agency, the Ministry is committed to keeping to the Treaty of Waitangi’s guiding principles in our work for and with M?ori students, their wh?nau, hap? and iwi.
