About the Service Our Older Persons Mental Health service (OPMH) is primarily a community located service with access to six inpatient beds located at Hutt Hospital. We provide specialist assessment, treatment and rehabilitation services for individuals presenting with recent onset functional mental health problems or dementia with significant behavioural and psychological symptoms (BPSD). A case management model is used alongside liaison services. We work in partnership with patients, whanau, General Practitioners, other clinical teams and community carers and supports to achieve the best possible health outcome for our patients. About the function We are pursuing a highly motivated Psychiatrist with a specialty in older adults who values working in a high functioning, collegial, interdisciplinary team. The function is full time but 0.8 full time equivalent could be negotiated. You will be expected to: •provide high quality diagnosis, treatment and follow up of clients •provide treatment in a community setting of a broad range of diagnoses and often complex co-morbidities. Usually in private homes or facilities •provide treatment and clinical oversight of inpatients in Older Persons Mental Health specific beds •work together with other members of the multidisciplinary team •provide advice and support to colleagues in primary care •hold responsibility for the management of patients subject to compulsory treatment •supervise psychiatry registrars and medical students as needed •support the transformation of HVDHB to achieve Maori Health equity and results. expertise and practice: •practice in working with Inpatient and Community Older Adult MH Services •practice in providing clinical leadership abilities in a multi-disciplinary setting •Current driver's licence You will also need to be vocationally registered (or be eligible to apply) in psychiatry with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
