About our group and team
Learning Support is a critical part of the Sector Enablement and Support Group in the Ministry. We work with the education sector to ensure that children and young people with additional learning needs are supported to achieve their full potential. One in five children and young people receive some form of learning support all over their early learning and schooling education.
The Service Support team is part of Learning Support and is focused on turning policy thinking into action and supporting the investment and budget decisions required to make this happen. The team has portfolio responsibilities for a range of evidence-informed initiatives and services supporting the inclusion, wellbeing, engagement and learning of children and young people in their learning environments and communities.
About this function:
   » You will provide external and internal communications and engagement planning, and implementation support and advice for wellbeing and inclusion initiatives including bullying-avoidance, as part of a wider work programme
   » You will be leading communications activities in the lead-up to the national Bullying-Free New Zealand Week and Competition 2021, providing guidance and support, writing messaging and updating a dedicated website
   » Your activities may include developing a communication plan, media statements, website, intranet and social media content, collateral, leadership abilities communications, and proactive media opportunities. You’ll be liaising with internal and external stakeholders and managing national projects
About you
We are seeking for a Lead Adviser with significant practice in providing internal and external communications advice, developing communications plans, and implementing them. You will be an expert at managing stakeholder relationships and identifying risks, issues and opportunities, with excellent communication expertise and practice to ensure risks are mitigated and good news opportunities are taken up.
You will also offer the following:
   » Exceptional writing expertise
   » The capability to provide best practice communications advice and support using a variety of methods and approaches to support project delivery
   » practice in producing and uploading content for web and in using online content management systems such as Silverstripe
   » practice in co-ordinating social media campaigns
   » Strong interpersonal expertise will help you partner with the business and external stakeholders
   » capability to deal effectively with pressure and multiple deadlines through good time management and prioritisation
   » the capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga
