   » Is improving child wellbeing and reducing child poverty important to you?
   » Are you ready to apply your policy and strategic leadership abilities skills to a new challenge?
The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) is seeking a recognised policy expert to support the Director as they establish our new Child Wellbeing and Poverty Reduction Group. The Chief Adviser is a recognised policy expert providing intellectual and strategic leadership abilities and oversight, helping to build the policy capcapability of the new group, as well as leading the development and delivery of significant programmes of work.
Reporting to the Director, you will:
   » Support the Director to ensure that group’s work programme is prepared and that Information technology is delivered within the appropriate timeframes to a high level of quality
   » Build the capcapability of the team, by coaching and mentoring team members to produce high quality advice and to enhance their knowledge, skills, and behaviours across the Policy Project Skills Framework; and by leading work to build the group’s policy capcapability.
   » Provide thought leadership abilities to achieve better results for children and young people by connecting research, policy, and community perspectives; leading complex and strategic projects; providing timely quality assurance; and sharing professional skills and knowledge.
   » Lead complex projects and programmes on child wellbeing and/or poverty reduction, including defining the problem, managing the analysis, and engaging others to deliver high quality advice and results
   » Support the Director to undertake corporate level requirements and act for the Director should they be absent. You will also represent the Director externally when needed.
Our ideal candidate will bring:
   » A detailed knowledge of child wellbeing and/or child poverty reduction is highly desirable.
   » Proven practice in a senior advisory function. You will be known as a credible and ‘trusted advisor’ to senior officials and ministers with the capability to influence others and shape policy debates
   » Demonstrated capability to coach and mentor policy staff at all stages of the policy life-cycle
   » Demonstrated practice building the capcapability of a policy team to produce high-quality advice
   » A detailed knowledge of, and demonstrated capability to lead others through, public sector systems and processes, including large-scale, complex cross government programmes.
   » Proven capability to think strategically about issues when developing policy advice and to anticipate future trends and their implications for existing policy trajectories
   » Strong public sector foundations, including a thorough knowledge of the obligations of the Crown under the Treaty of Waitangi and expectations of M?ori related to this work
   » Demonstrated capability to execute with resilience, quickly adjusting and adapting to changing or ambiguous conditions
