At the heart of the region, Nelson City Council is a Unitary Authority responsible for providing key infrastructure, community facilities and services, economic development, and a range of regulatory functions including land use and natural resource management. Council is always striving to deliver an even better service and a sustainable regional future for its vibrant community. With dynamic growth in regional development activity and internal development and promotion, we now require two Planners within Resource Consents.

Reporting to an inspiring and exceptionally practiced Team Leader Resource Consents, you will use your knowledge to assist with the processing of a wide variety of consents (regional and or district), working as part of a passionate, inclusive, and dedicated Resource Consents team. The work covers a wide variety of diverse consents, ranging from the waterfront and inner-city apartments, comprehensive housing developments, water permits, air and coastal discharges with a significant and complex science component, earthworks, and subdivisions, through to the more conventional consents.
This is an exceptional opportunity for you to gain professional development, exposure, and practice across a breadth of consents in a fast-paced work environment, that enables you to show initiative and enables you to take responsibility for delivering results within a customer-centric environment.
This is a rare opportunity to work under a strong coaching and mentoring leader, to further develop your career in Planning and follow a pathway to gain stronger technical practice across all areas of resource consenting. What we require are Planners who have practice in processing resource consents to a good standard, knowledge of the RMA and connected legislation, bring some knowledge of the consent hearing processes and procedures, but also an inquisitive nature to get involved and desire to build up the knowledge to round out professional practice.
Needless to say, you will bring solid interpersonal communication expertise, with particularly good report writing expertise along with stakeholder engagement, and relationship management expertise, sound judgment, and problem-solving abilities. Essential is a significant tertiary qualification and a significant professional membership for continued professional development would be advantageous.
