Working at the Department of Internal Affairs, you'll have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of New Zealanders.
In the Digital Public Service/Te K?tui Whitiwhiti Branch, we work across the public service to connect, influence and support the system to take advantage of new digital opportunities. We also support the Government Chief Digital agent (GCDO) to drive the government's digital transformation and position government to succeed in a changing and evolving digital age.
We have a permanent opportunity for a Web Standards Consultant.
» Do you work in digital and have a passion for web accessibility?
» Do you have broad knowledge of and practice applying the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)?
» Would you like to help other digital practitioners and Government agencies embed accessibility and deliver online information and services that work for disabled people?
» Strong subject matter skills in web accessibility, especially WCAG 2.
» Excellent skill in identifying the cause of accessibility problems and presenting practical solutions in a comprehensive and detailed manner significant to the audience.
» Excellent capability to communicate digital and information-related NZ Government Web Standards issues in verbal and written styles suited to senior decision makers in government. Strong analytical and advisory skills and the capability to think strategically
We need you. We are seeking for someone who can work with and through agencies, and speak to practitioners as much as senior leaders, to provide practical advice, assistance and support, driving capcapability improvement in the NZ Government Web Standards and the delivery of accessible web content.
To be prosperous in this function you will need the following:
It would be great if you also had:
» Basic web design and development skills
» An knowledge of standards development processes, maturity assessment and risk assessment methodologies
» significant domain knowledge, e.g., digital or ICT operations, information management, or consulting and the provision of professional services.
If you want a job where the work you do matters to New Zealand, we would like to hear from you. We are an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and inclusion. We recognise a diverse workforce contributes to better business results. We are committed to creating a workplace where all employees have equal access
This is really important for being able to identify technical web and WCAG issues and offer technical solutions. It's not in the actual JD, so I've included Information technology here, even though I'd really like to give Information technology more visibility. At the same time, I'm worried about a lack of candidates who know WCAG but don't have the basic web dev skills needed.
