Te T??papa Kura K?inga – The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) leads Aotearoa – New Zealand’s housing and urban development work programme.
M? te t?nga – About the function
HUD’s M?ori Housing Unit-Te K?hui M?ori Housing – leads HUD’s focus to boost housing and urban development results for M?ori, working closely with Te Puni K?kiri and K?inga Ora – Homes and Communities. Te K?hui is also engaging wh?nau, hap?, iwi and M?ori and with key stakeholders to support those who seek to progress developments and realise their aspirations with housing and urban development. Information technology is an exciting time to be working in M?ori housing. Te K?huiM?ori Housing has recently launched a thirty year Strategy for M?ori Housing – MAIHI Ka Ora, and the Waitangi Tribunal Kaupapa Inquiry into Housing Policy and Services (WAI 2750) is also underway.
As Policy Advisor you will support the overall capcapability of the team through gathering evidence, analysing policy issues, developing policy options and preparing policy advice for defined policy issues.
To be prosperous in this function you will build and maintain strong working relationships and contribute to larger, more complex projects where others have the accountcapability for the delivery of outputs.
The Policy Advisor is responsible for the following:
   » Setting policy advice in a broad political, economic and strategic context, and conducting analysis within the medium and longer term policy agenda
   » Applying standard frameworks, principles, tools and approaches to the analysis of policy issues
   » Applying critical thinking and clear logic reasoning to analyse policy issues
   » Gathering, analysing and assessing key information and evidence from a variety of sources
   » Establishing a sound base of content knowledge, and learning how to be guided in this process by the policy agenda
   » Engaging effectively with delivery agencies, stakeholders and other government agencies
   » Contributing to developing practical and effective policy options that will help to achieve the desired results
   » Providing clear, accurate, and well-reasoned policy products that are targeted to the audience

   » Good working knowledge of a range of frameworks and methods; capability to apply appropriate approaches to given policy issues
   » Critical thinking expertise with sound reasoning and judgement
   » capability to analyse issues without the total picture
   » Effective at building relationships with stakeholders, delivery agencies and government agencies; knowledge their perspectives and reflect them in advice
   » Excellent communication expertise, both verbal and written
   » You will be an existing Policy Advisor with public policy practice
   » You bring an knowledge of M?ori values, practice and perspective and me ?na tikanga to your work, (competency in te Reo M?ori would be a bonus)

   » We have a stepped remuneration framework where income movement happens though defined step increases within a function income band. Appointment to a step within the income range will depend on the practice and expertise the person brings to the function which will be better known following a recruitment process including an interview. The income range for this function is $70,051 to $85,517 (top step)
   » Salaries automatically move up a step on an annual basis
   » Four weeks and three days annual leave
