Predator Free 2050 Limited is a Crown-owned, charitable company established to help deliver theNew Zealand governments ambitious goal of eradicating possums, stoats, and rats by 2050. Providing co-funding to enable predator control and eradication projects at large landscape scale, as well as supporting the breakthrough science to underpin them. Current investment totals nearly $76 million of total project costs. This huge undertaking has people all over Aotearoa taking part – backyard trapping, planting natives, volunteering, and donating. This movement brings together skills from M?ori, government, businesses, NGO's, and communities. As a next step in this journey, a position has been newly created, which will call to those with the skill set and cultural knowledge to both establish and maintain strong and effective relationships with iwi/hap? led project teams, Predator Free 2050 staff and the board of Directors. Predator Free 2050 Limited has created a new function for a Kaiwhakahaere Hononga ? Iwi – Iwi Partnerships Director to empower and tautoko iwi/hap? in their mission to free their whenua from possums, rats, and stoats.
Te ?hua o Te T?runga – The nature of the position
The purpose of this newly created position is to support, build and maintain strong, mutually beneficial relationships between Predator Free 2050 Limited, iwi and hap?. Furthermore, the overarching intent is to develop mechanisms which empower iwi/hap? M?ori to move forward confidently to eradicate these destructive pests. As such, the capability to operate respectfully and comfortably in M?ori-located environments, and the capability to establish effective networks and relationships is essential. Leading iwi directed projects, you will be working across DOC's Treaty Partnerships team, other agencies, and with Ministerial staff.
The capability to reflect t?ngata whenua perspectives and aspirations back into the organisation and help build knowledge and knowledge of the company and its operating environment within iwi networks will be core to this function. Supporting and promoting the development of staff confidence and capcapability across Te reo me ?na tikanga and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, the organisation wishes to enhance their capcapability in engaging effectively with iwi/hap?.
This will also, and in turn see you advocate and ensure that commitment to Te Titiri is reflected in company values, behaviours, and relationships. Proactively providing high-level advice and support, you will work across the breadth of the organisation to understand knowledge needs and gaps and deliver to those gaps across a wide audience. You will already have practice working with and influencing diverse groups of people and have a defined capcapability in establishing and enabling relationships to flourish.
Ng? tino P?kenga/Wheako – Essential skills/practices for the function
   » A background where you have proven results in building and maintaining strong, authentic connections between a government organisation and iwi/hap?.
   » Proficiency in te reo M?ori and at a level that can be confidently used when communicating with M?ori audiences.
   » Expert, high-level writing and verbal communication skills, including the capability to tailor cultural material to meet the needs of Ministers, funding bodies, and departmental requirements.
   » A strong capcapability in interpreting and appropriately translating Company Governance documents in a timely manner to meet deadlines.
   » A sound knowledge of te ao M?ori, New Zealand and M?ori history, contemporary circumstances, lifestyles, and traditions.
   » Excellent people skills, people leadership abilities practice and capability to influence and inspire others.
   » The capability to help build an organisation's confidence and capcapability to partner effectively in an ever-changing environment.
An knowledge of ecology and predator eradication is highly desirable, although not a requisite to application. This is a fixed term contract function to 30 June 2024. The Company has flexibility in the function being either full time or part time to suit the right candidate.
