Auckland Art Gallery Toi o T?maki is a cultural leader in Aotearoa New Zealand. The Gallery's vision is to be the home of art for Auckland, its people and visitors to its internationally recognised award-winning building. Established in 1888, the Gallery holds a preeminent collection of New Zealand art and a significant collection of international art, and presents a dynamic programme of temporary exhibitions, public engagement and outreach activities.
The Gallery is pleased to announce two paid curatorial internship opportunities to develop the expertise of emerging and early career M?ori arts professionals. These paid intern positions are intended to provide a valuable learning opportunity and develop the expertise of people committed to pursuing a career in art galleries and museums. Each internship has a slightly different focus. The first intern will work closely with our new Curator, M?ori Art and the second intern will work with the Gallery's Curator, Contemporary Art on upcoming projects.

You are passionate about M?ori and New Zealand art and keen to pursue a career working in the art gallery and museum sector. You have strong oral and written communication expertise and enjoy working in a team environment. You have a strong level of cultural competence in engaging within our M?ori communities and are committed to increasing public access to and expertise about M?ori and New Zealand art.
candidates will demonstrate the following attributes:
   » A tertiary qualification in Art History, Fine Arts, Design, M?ori Studies, Curatorial Studies, Museums Studies, or significant field.
   » Passion for contemporary M?ori and New Zealand art and interest in New Zealand art history
   » practice working in a support function to curators or academics as an intern or research adjunct is desirable
   » practice working on exhibitions is desirable
   » A record of published writing on art is desirable
   » practice keeping detailed records, including minute taking and report writing
   » practice using collection management software (preferably Vernon CMS) is desirable
   » practice in using Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook)
   » A commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and biculturalism as they relate to the Gallery and its programmes

If you have a keen interest in and expertise of M?ori and New Zealand art and are looking for an opportunity to work with and lgain from professional colleagues at an exciting period in the Gallery's development, then look no further. This is an excellent opportunity for a curator building their career to gain practice at Aotearoa New Zealand's leading visual arts institution.
These functions are fixed term contracts 9 to 12 months fixed term contracts, working 40 hours per week Monday to Friday. You will work standard business hours, though you may need to be available for weekend talks, evening events and projects as required, on a regular basis.
