The Coromandel Heritage Trust has a rare and exciting opportunity for a skilled Collections adjunct to join our team and contribute to the preservation of Coromandel/Hauraki heritage.
The Coromandel Heritage Trust operates The Treasury, a Research Centre and Archive in Thames that collects and preserves documentary heritage from across the Coromandel/Hauraki regions and makes these resources accessible to the public. The Treasury's research centre is located in a former Carnegie Library building and has an adjoining state of the art Archive that was built in 2014. The Coromandel Heritage Trust is presently led by a Board of skilled trustees and a Manager who supervises approximately 55 volunteers.
About the function
The Coromandel Heritage Trust has commenced an exciting and ambitious project to catalogue our entire collection of documentary heritage in order to make Information technology more accessible to researchers. This cataloguing work will be carried out in conformity with standard museum/archive procedures and will utilise our collection management system Past Perfect.
The Collections adjunct will be responsible for preserving, cataloguing and providing access to The Treasury's collection of books, maps, newspapers, photographs and more. The focus of this function will be to work with The Treasury Manager to review current collection management policies, assist with the care and maintenance of collection items, accession new acquisitions and catalogue items in our archive that haven't yet been added to our CMS. The Collections adjunct will also work closely with the Manager to build the capcapability and capacity of The Treasury's large team of volunteers who undertake collections work.
expertise and practice preferred
   » A recognised tertiary qualification in a significant discipline (such as museum studies, archive management, information systems) or working towards one
   » At least two years practice in collections or archive related functions that involved managing and preserving documentary heritage
   » Advanced level of computer literacy and a proficiency with collection management systems (such as Past Perfect, Vernon CMS, eHive or similar)
   » practice leading or contributing to prosperous projects in a team environment
   » practice facilitating the learning/development of others in the context of collection management
   » Excellent time management expertise and capability to multi-task
   » Attention to detail and problem-solving expertise
   » Commitment to biculturalism and an consciousness of tikanga, particularly as Information technology relates to taonga
