Keen to work with ?konga to empower them to become engaged and contributing members of their communities?
Want to be part of a supportive, collaborative and innovative culture?
Te Kura, with funding from The Ministry of Education, has set up an Enhanced Engagement and Wellbeing (He Oranga Mahuru) project to support ?konga (students) at risk of disengagement. This funding is provided until the end of the 2021 school year to support these ?konga to re-engage with their learning, and/or to prosperously transition on to further education, training or employment.
The project includes new Kai?whina functions working directly with ?konga, including a high proportion of M?ori and Pacific learners. In the Kai?whina function you will work as part of a team to improve results for these ?konga.
Te Kura’s vision is to enable our ?konga to achieve their educational and personal goals, empowering them to become engaged and contributing members of their communities.
We have a vacancy for Kaiawhina to join the Northern Region team, located in our Auckland Office.
As Kaiawhina, you will:
   » Support in-region staff (ie Kaimanaaki, Kaiako, Kaitautoko, Liaison Teachers and Kaituitui) to engage ?konga(students) in significant ?kanohi ki te kanohi’ learning practices.
   » Mentor, motivate, encourage, and support ?konga, individually and in small groups, as ?konga engage in learning activities.
   » Establish connections with hap?, iwi, wh?nau, M?ori agencies, social and health services to enhance wellness of ?konga and whanau
   » Promoting hauora through te whare tapa wha, and other wellbeing initiatives
We are seeking for people with excellent interpersonal expertise and an inclusive approach, able to quickly build rapport and trust with ?konga. You will be expected to be aware of the health and safety requirements for working with?konga outside the classroom and comply with the school’s policies at all times. expertise and practice of Tikanga and Te Reo M?ori is an advantage.
