Adult Mental Health and Addiction Services are seeking applications from psychiatrists who would be interested in working in the rural health setting. The continuing development of rural specialties, and working to progress integrated services across the Coast, offer you the opportunity to become involved in designing sustainable services for the future. There is also the opportunity to become a member of the Rural Special Interest group of the RANZCP. The WCDHB mental health service is small but agile. You will be one of a team of several psychiatrists (5 FTE) working collegially with a reliable and practiced workforce to provide specialist services to a population of approximately 32,000 people. We have systems in place to support collegial relationships and professional development, and we're always keen to explore new ideas. Rural services require a high degree of flexibility, as the work is diverse, The function is essentially for a generalist and may include responsibility for aspects of general adult psychiatry (community and inpatient), addictions, older persons and child and adolescents. The exact range of clinical responsibilities will be negotiated in regard to your practice, interests and the Service needs.
