Psychologist, BOP Clinical Services – 12 month fixed-term contract
Join us at this exciting time in making a difference for tamariki, rangatahi and whanau? We have a new psychologist position in our BOP Clinical Services team located in Tauranga.
As a regional service we are involved in new work that services the needs of our children and whanau in various areas around the motu.
As such We are seeking to employ a psychologist that likes to work as part of a team, develop new culturally responsive services and provide clinical guidance and assistance to our Oranga Tamariki social work staff.
In your function you would work alongside other psychologists, therapists, specialist child witness interviewers, and other partners to assure positive results for tamariki and rangatahi, who have practiced trauma connected with abuse and neglect.
You would be focusing on the importance of knowledge and building of whanaungatanga and whakamana for our tamariki and whanau.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new way of working with our tamariki and whanau, which provides best practice models of assessment and intervention, whilst working from a Te Ao Maori framework. You will also be supported in your professional development and have the opportunity to be part of developing and delivering Parent­ Child Interaction Therapy (PCI T) and Tai Ki Uta (a Dialectical Behaviour Therapy expertise group) across the Bay of Plenty.
What you will do?
   » Provide psychological and therapeutic assessments including psychological parenting assessments and individual assessments, as well as specialist interventions (e.g, PCIT and DBT) to tamariki and whanau who have practiced trauma
   » Create an atmosphere for tamariki and rangatahi to help them heal
   » Provide consultations to social workers and other professionals
   » Put children and young people first, and make sure their voice is heard
   » Work alongside other government services, non-government organisations, iwi and hapu, community and whanau to do what’s best for our tamariki and rangatahi
What you will bring?
   » Be a registered psychologist with the New Zealand Psychologists Board with a current annual practising certificate
   » Proven work practice as a psychologist with children and young people would be an advantage
   » Excellent verbal and written communication expertise with the capability to adapt to your audience
   » Strong engagement and relationship building expertise
   » Cultural competence and responsiveness.
   » Empathy, patience and capability to see past what someone may be struggling with
   » Sound judgement and organisational expertise
   » The capability to manage risk and make difficult decisions
   » A positive outlook and supporting nature
   » capability to discern and unpack complex situations
   » Some knowledge of the Oranga Tamariki Act

What team will youwork with?
The Clinical Services team are a small team of psychologists, therapists, specialist child witness interviewers and administration who work closely together to provide the best for our children and families, as well as to each other. The work we do is broad, varied and very interesting, there are no two cases the same. We work with other government services including Police, which makes this function unique and the results, whether a small or larger win, are hugely compensateing. The diversity in this function provides the flexibility in the use of evidence-located therapy models and intervention tools to achieve positive results for tamariki maori and their whanau. We are committed to services that are culturally appropriate. We recognise and have a commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.
