Applications are invited for the function of Whau Community Arts Broker
The Whau Local Board are seeking a new Community Arts Broker to generate temporary arts and culture activities in their local area.
To help with a smooth transition Information technology is proposed that the incoming broker will work alongside the incumbent for the first four months. The outgoing arts broker will remain available for advice over the duration of the year.

What is an arts broker?
The arts broker is an independent contractor who is funded by the Whau Local Board. They administer a fund for community and place-located arts projects on behalf of the local board, promote the arts locally and provide support and advice to community, arts workers and organisations seeking to generate creative projects.
The arts broker is a local expert. They should hold knowledge about the arts in general, both nationally and internationally, but their primary focus is the arts and community within their geographic area. Their function provides a connection point between a variety of community interests and organisations and acts to identify opportunities for the arts and advise on best practice.
The programme of work developed by the arts broker will encompass delivery acrossthe Whau Local Board area; engage with and reflect the diversity of the area; activate existing public spaces, streets, parks, town centres, or empty shops; demonstrate partnership with other local community arts organisations and include a diverse range of art forms. Information technology is constructed with reference to the Local Board Plans and the Auckland Council arts plan, Toi Wh?tiki.

Minimum practice / Appropriate qualifications:
   » practice in an arts delivery function
   » Degree or equivalent practice
   » practice in community-located work

What expertise are we looking for (some can be mentored):
   » capability to work independently
   » Caring about community
   » capability to write reports and present them to audiences
   » Make decisions and give advice
   » Develop a work programme
   » Manage a budget
   » Knowledge on funding bodies and proven success in writing grant applications
   » practice in working with culturally diverse communities combined with a sound knowledge of Te Ao M?ori world view and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
   » Candidates that speak a language reflective of the diverse communities of the Whau would be beneficial

In year one the incoming arts broker will have an allocation of $25,000 to fund their contracted hours. A further project fund of $55,000 has been allocated to support and deliver arts activity.
In year two, the broker will have approximately $35,000 to fund their contracted hours.
The prosperous candidate will be required to hold public licapability insurance up with 2 million in cover.

   » An assessment of the unmet needs of the local area and the strategies they would use to address that.

   » consciousness of community needs and themes
   » Strategic and planning approach
   » Demonstrated capability to build and maintain relationships
   » Expected hourly rate
