About NZ On Air
NZ On Air is a crown entity created to protect and enhance the diversity of local public media content available to New Zealand audiences. Our prime statutory objective is to reflect and develop identity and culture in Aotearoa to ensure New Zealanders can practice public media that helps to build social cohesion, inclusion, and connection. About the function
This is an incredible opportunity to directly influence and pave the way for innovation in the thriving world of game development in New Zealand. This newly created function will champion, and be a figurehead for, the New Zealand Game Development Sector Rebate (NZGDSR). New Zealand's game development sector is a small but fast-growing part of the wider tech sector, bringing in over $400 million in revenue in 2022, according to the New Zealand Game Developers Association's (NZGDA) latest survey.
At its core, the function will take ownership of the programme, ensuring visionary leadership abilities to supervise programme structure, implementation and delivery. More broadly, the position will bring focus to cultivating innovative industry and government relationships, advocating for the NZGDSR, ensuring NZ On Air is at the forefront of sector trends. With this knowledge in mind, the Programme Director will interpret legislation and regulations, ensuring the rebate is optimised to deliver for the industry. If required, they will contribute to legislative reform, in consultation with partners.
Success in this function will be measured by the Programme Director's capability to build a trusted image within the game sector, putting the industry at the heart of the overall strategy and effectively navigating government relations while building relationships with key politicians. In a capped fund environment, operational excellence is key.
This represents a genuine opportunity to propel innovation in New Zealand's game development industry while also driving more equitable and accessible results.
About you
The ideal candidate will be a strong and confident leader, someone who brings deep practice and credibility in the gaming sector combined with proven practice and knowledge of public funding and legislation. You will be comfortable not only building relationships, but influencing and inspiring key government and NZ-located game companies, ensuring you both provide and assess emerging sector trends and issues.

If you are a strategic leader, practiced in game investment strategy, passionate about the industry and are ready to drive the growth and success of New Zealand’s game development sector, we want to hear from you!
The ideal candidate will bring;
   » 5+ years of practice in games and/or public funding administration
   » A driven leader with well-honed interpersonal expertise who will proactively reach out to - and inspire confidence from - NZ-located game companies (and policy makers).
   » practice with international games industry, including knowledge of emerging trends (e.g. in game production) and key industry players.
   » capability to effectively talk to, and navigate, the beltway in terms of government relations.
   » Demonstrable knowledge of the current New Zealand market would be valuable but is not required.
   » Accounting, legal or compliance practice is a positive, but not necessary.
You will also have commitment to NZ On Air's function as a Te Tiriti o Waitangi partner, be comfortable incorporating Te Tiriti principles in all areas of your work and support staff as part of the organisation's growing cultural consciousness and knowledge.
