Te tIma –The team
When you work in Parliament, you don’t just watch democracy in action – your part of it. And in the Office of the Clerk we work at its core, providing advisory services to the House of Representatives, directly assisting the House and its committees with the business of Parliament.
Mo te tunga –About the function
As a Deputy Clerk of Committee, you’ll be the lead report writer within a team of staff who support one or more of Parliament’s select committees. As well as attending select committee meetings and supporting the committee’s programme of work, you’ll have the opportunity to work with MPs scrutinising government agencies, legislation, petitions, and international treaties.

Working for the Office of the Clerk in a totally impartial, politically neutral environment, your clear and concise written and verbal communications expertise will be invaluable as you:
   » draft reports on behalf of select committees
   » contact with departmental advisers and submitters
   » confidently present the results of your work to MPs.
As a Deputy Clerk you will support the other members of your secretariat, sometimes stepping into the shoes of a Committee Clerk, and sometimes assisting with meeting administration.
These tasks may include:
   » coordinating a select committee’s programme of work
   » briefing committee chairpersons
   » providing advice on parliamentary procedures.
To kete –What you will bring to the function :
You will be a skilled, efficient self-starter who has been described as a high-performing team-player. You can work well with others and build strong working relationships. this function involves interacting with MPs, departmental advisers, and other parliamentary staff so you’ll need to be articulate and demonstrate a high level of maturity and discretion.
Alongside a tertiary qualification, you’ll ideally have a few years’ work practice under your belt. You’ll need to be an excellent writer with a sharp, analytical mind, and keen to apply your expertise and grow your expertise across a variety of subject areas.

The appointing income range for this function is $74,203 to $81,926 per annum. Appointments will be located on expertise and practice (please note, the full income range extends beyond this to allow for tenure progression).
We are recruiting to fill two permanent positions (one full-time, one part-time) and two fixed-term positions from 31 October 2022 to the 10 February 2023 and 1 March 2023.
