This position is permanent full time or could be fixed term located on what works best for both parties.

About the function
In this function, you will be required to be highly organised, and be able to use initiative and problem-solve effectively. You will also need to display strong creative ideas, have an eye for detail and be effective at implementing feedback. We work in a busy small team environment, so good verbal and written communication expertise are essential.
A passion for editorial design and typography is vital within this function, as document layout and typesetting for print mediums are core to the Institutes' work. There are unique opportunities to create original publication designs for our upcoming books and journals. The designer is responsible for translating research into engaging visual content, such as: infographics, diagrams, illustrations, videos and social media content. The smooth running and professional appearance of our website and social media are also managed by the designer.
This is an entry level design function that would suit a skilled graduate, as well as individuals particularly interested in the context of the Institutes' work. The ideal candidate would hold a design degree or have an equivalent combination of education and significant work practice, with a demonstrated history and/or portfolio of the responsibilities and expertise listed below.
Responsibilities and expertise required:
General
   » Confident at multi-tasking and working simultaneously across multiple projects
   » capability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines
   » Comfortable working independently and with direction from CEO
   » Take initiative and be a self-starter
   » Be a natural problem solver, finding solutions proactively to challenges
   » Deliver high attention to detail
   » capability to project manage from concept to completion
Publications
   » Capable across Adobe Creative Suite - particularly InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
   » Proficient in Office 365 - particularly PowerPoint, Word and Excel
   » Strong editorial design, layout and typography expertise
   » Capable of designing within existing brand guidelines/style guide
   » Knowledge of the print production process
Media
   » Confident behind a camera with product and event photography/video
   » capability to edit footage and utilise motion graphics
   » Knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects (advantageous)
Web/Social Media
   » Knowledge of website management (WordPress)
   » Proficient in website design (HTML and CSS not necessary but desirable)
   » Familiarity with newsletter creation (Mailchimp)
   » Strong knowledge and knowledge of social media platforms
   » capability to create consistent and engaging content
Communications
   » Clear and consistent communication across all parties to ensure efficiency and accuracy
   » contacts with research team and editors
   » contacts with key suppliers such as printers, photographers and event organisers
As we are a small team, Information technology is critical that staff work closely together and take on administrative tasks as required (to ensure the office runs smoothly). Having a basic knowledge of Information technology and how technology/computers work is also a bonus.
