Work with a team of strong subject and technical specialists across both the Turnbull and wider NLNZ with skills in analogue, digitised and born-digital formats. » Contribute to efforts to promote and share the history of Aotearoa New Zealand through the continuing development of the Turnbull collections. » Be part of a holistic system, working collaborating to improve the representation of all New Zealanders, especially those who have been historically underrepresented in the Library's collections. The New Zealand and Pacific Published Collection is a large and diverse collection and includes reference materials and New Zealand and Pacific books and serials covering all subjects. The collection has been developed from the original bequest of Alexander Turnbull in 1918. From this core collection the Library has continued to build the collections over the last 100 years and adds about 10,000 items to the collection each year through legal deposit, purchase, donation, and web archiving. We are seeking for an practiced documentary heritage professional who is excited by the challenge of strategic collection building, effective promotion of the collections, and engagement with researcher and user communities. To be prosperous in the function you will: » Be excited by the challenge of working across the Library to think strategically about how we sustainably build the New Zealand and Pacific Published Collections in all formats. » Be curious about how we can use collections metadata to better analyse, understand, and make decisions about our collection development activities. » Be engaged with academic and research communities, staying current with research trends, and highlighting areas of the collections that may be of interest to researchers. » Work across the Library to promote and facilitate access and use of the Turnbull Collections. » Have demonstrated expertise of, and engagement with, library and archival theories and principles. Appraisal, collection development, and cataloguing practice and expertise would be an advantage. » Be able to prosperously establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with donors and dealers, your team, the wider business, and documentary heritage sector colleagues. The function of Curator New Zealand and Pacific is part of the Curatorial Service Team. This team work closely with teams across the Library including Research Enquires, Arrangement & Description, Collection Care, Digital Collections, Outreach and Public Engagement, and the Acquisitions and Cataloguing departments of the National Library. The function reports to the Leader, Curatorial Services and has two direct reports, an adjunct Curator Newspapers and a Collection Development Librarian. DIA offers opportunities to grow.
