The Abuse in Care Royal Commission of Inquiry places Survivors at the heart of its mahi.
The Commission has recently re-aligned its organisational structure to ensure Information technology can deliver its large work programme leading towards delivering our final report to the Governor-General in June 2023. As a result of this restructure, there are a number of new employment opportunities that have been created across the organisation.
We are currently seeking a Senior Communications Advisor – M?ori to join our organisation to provide expert communications services in support of the Inquiry’s work and communicate directly with the Inquiry’s stakeholders, particularly our key M?ori stakeholders and groups.

As the Senior Communications Advisor – M?ori, some key areas of responsibility include the following:
   » Establishing and growing relationships with iwi and other key M?ori groups
   » Incorporating appropriate M?ori Tikanga approaches our mahi and establishing strong relationship with key internal stakeholders/teams
   » Support the Head of Communications to provide strategic, proactive and timely communications advice to support the Inquiry’s Terms of Reference and work programme
   » Responsibility for strategic communications which is focused on external communications
   » Contribute to the development of, and implementation of the Inquiry’s communication and engagement strategies, plans, policies and processes utilising robust models and approaches
   » Effectively navigates complex and sometimes conflicting stakeholder priorities
   » capability to produce and deliver content for traditional and digital platforms
   » expertise of the changing media environment and how Information technology influences impacts the delivery and impact of what we do
expertise and practices
The key expertise and practice We are seeking for include (but not limited to) the following:
   » At least five years’ practice in a communications advisory function
   » Te Reo M?ori fluency would be beneficial
   » Developed and maintained networks with iwi/kaupapa M?ori organisations
   » Degree, diploma or significant qualification in public relations, journalism and /or communications
   » Proven oral and written communication expertise
   » The capability to interpret data to understand audience behaviour and needs and tailor the communications approach accordingly
   » Excellent engagement expertise including developing communications and engagement strategies, and implementation of plans and work programmes
   » Effective interpersonal expertise – able to relate to, influence and gain the confidence of diverse external stakeholders

The Royal Commission is investigating the abuse and neglect of people in State and faith-located institutions between 1950 and 1999. We will make recommendations to the Governor-General in 2023 on how New Zealand can better care for children, young people and vulnerable adults.

The Commission’s COVID-19 policy requires that all employees be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and provide evidence of vaccination, such as a valid My Vaccine Pass to be able to work onsite. If a person has an exemption for vaccination from the Ministry of Health and the Commission believes the new starter could perform the function safely, we may be able to offer that person the function.
