About us
School Transport is the second largest purchaser of passenger services in New Zealand (after Auckland Transport) and has been managing the transport of students to and from school for over 130 years.
School Transport is responsible for:
   » spending over $200m each year on transport services
   » superviseing delivery of around 7,000 everyday vehicle movements with around 40m passenger journeys each year
   » assisting over 100,000 students to school and home again safely every school day
   » managing contracts with around 80 transport supplie rs (including bus, total mobility, and ferry services)
   » providing funding to around 400 schools/kura that organise transport assistance for their students
   » offering Specialised School Transport Assistance to over 7,000 students with complex mobility needs
   » paying conveyance allowances for around 5,000 students who cannot access School Transport services
   » transporting 25,000 Year 7 and Year 8 students to offsite technical education facilities
About the function
The Manager – Planning and Liaison will be responsible for service design, planning and review, with a focus on ensuring that Ministry-funded bus routes are optimised for the delivery of public value and equitable results. this function will also play a proactive function in building, maintaining and managing stakeholder relationships, and will take ownership of School Transport’s relationship with schools. In leading a team of primarily regionally-located staff, this function will ensure that route design processes are responsive to local circumstances while promoting alignment and consistency at a national level.
About you
You will have a breadth of planning and optimisation skills (ideally in passenger transport) and have a proven background in building effective relationships with communities and external stakeholders.
To be prosperous in this function you will also need the following:
   » practice leading prosperous teams, mentoring staff, managing priorities and delivering to deadlines
   » Highly developed service and process design, planning and stakeholder relationship management skills
   » A record of significant relationship-building practice with communities at local and regional levels, including the capacity to engage effectively with iwi, hapu and schools/kura
   » The capability to quickly establish and maintain a high level of trust and credibility with stakeholders
   » The capability to make sound decisions within short timeframes and effectively ‘think on your feet’
   » practice as part of a leadership abilities team, providing regular reporting, and appropriate support and guidance
   » Demonstrated capability to manage service design and engagement issues involving pressures of urgency, complexity and sensitivity
