Help shape the future of education
At the Ministry of Education, we work together to shape an education system that delivers equitable and excellent results.
Our organisation is made up of more than 3,000 talented and committed people around New Zealand, from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures.
While we work in different groups and on different things, we all strive every day to make the biggest difference we can for every child, young person and adult student in our education system.
About our group and team
Education Infrastructure Service (EIS), a part of the Ministry of Education, manages the Crown’s second largest property portfolio of around 2,100 schools with a book value of $19.6 billion, the largest payroll in the country, and transportation of over 100,000 students to and from school each day.
Our vision for school property is that all schools have quality learning environments as part of a well-managed and sustainable portfolio that helps deliver equitable and excellent results for every child.
We are standing up a new property team focussed on the asset and inventory management of its thousands of transportable classrooms. The team is data-driven and works closely with a wide variety of internal stakeholders.
Transportable classrooms are used to meet a range of short-term and long-term needs, including roll growth, decanting and emergency response. The team will play an integral function in the overall preparedness and resilience of our stock, and in enabling positive impacts on the learning practice of àkonga across Aotearoa.
About this function
The Lead – Data Analyst, Inventory will own the transportables data sets, in particular our stock needed for our emergency response, such as flooding fire and earthquakes. The Data Analyst will work closely with our wider teams for improvements to transportables data collection and will find innovative and creative ways to correlate other data sets. The results will provide valuable insights to the transportables inventory across all uses.
this function will also identify stock that needs to be retired or replaced, working closely with the team’s Asset Planner to develop projections and pipelines of work.
About you
We are seeking for someone who is an expert in applied data, and can create useful actionable results from multiple data sets. The creation of new IP and valuable insights is a given. A combination of a logical approach and application of forensic levels of detail will see you thrive in this function.
If you bring school, government or property practice such as asset management, all the better.
We are a small central team working with colleagues across the country, so good communication, resilience, empathy and diplomacy will serve you well. You will be capable of managing your own workload/priorities, as well as being proactive with colleagues outside the immediate team.
The transportables space is in the early stages of its establishment within the Ministry – this gives the team a real opportunity to shape its own future and make maximum impact within the wider property group.
With the unusual twist of buildings that move, plus emergency preparedness, data will need to be constantly refreshed and solutions and options updated, particularly for stock that could be mobilised into emergency situations.
Are you ready to make a difference?
The roll is full-time, and Auckland is the preferred location, however good candidates from other main centres can be considered.
We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds, including M?ori, Pacific and people with disabilities, who will enrich our knowledge of the education system.
As a government agency, the Ministry is committed to keeping to the Treaty of Waitangi’s guiding principles in our work for and with M?ori students, their wh?nau, hap? and iwi.
