About our group and team
Sector Enablement and Support (SE&S) is the Ministry’s operational service delivery group. We work closely with our Ministry, the sector and government agency colleagues to ensure early childhood services, schools, kura and communities have the support they need to achieve the best education results for all children and young people.
Our regional teams focus on supporting early learning services, schools and kura, as well as provide specialist learning support to children and young people. We do this through coordinating and delivering responsive solutions to deliver on and support local education priorities and goals.
About this function
Working in the Pathways hub within the local education team, delivering student support service across a diverse region. The function is focused on supporting children and young people whose education pathway has become interrupted and aims to assist those who are becoming disengaged or who are disengaged from education through exclusion, youth justice, chronic absenteeism or family harm. Information technology gives emphasis to relationship building, re-engagement support and pathway provision, and aims to strengthen our learning support delivery model.
The adviser ensures all children and especially Maori children and young people, parents and whanau, iwi and school and employer’s perspectives are considered and embedded in re-engagement processes, programmes, implementation, new initiatives and change, to deliver education success for all and aims to supports kura and schools to enable all students to achieve and thrive.
About you
Key for this function is the capability to build strong working relationships with the sector, community, family and whanau, and the wider Ministry, to ensure we respond effectively for the diverse range of stakeholders.
We are seeking for someone who can:
   » relate to and understand the aspirations and needs of children and young people, parents and whanau, iwi, businesses and employers in the region
   » work with parents, families, whanau and providers to understand their needs and to provide a pathway and foundation to re-engage and promote education success
   » dentify and support other agencies and providers to ensure children and young people are supported to re-engage and to succeed
   » use data and information from a wide variety of sources to develop and plan pathway connects and opportunities best suited to the individual.
You will also offer the following:
   » practice building strong working relationships with multiple stakeholders
   » Strong verbal and written communication expertise
   » The capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga
   » Ideally, an knowledge of the schooling sector, including the factors influencing student achievement and engagement, including barriers to success
