Hon Kelvin Davis, Minister for M?ori Crown Relations: Te Arawhiti, Minister for Children, Minister of Corrections and Associate Minister of Education (M?ori Education) is seeking a Press Secretary to join his team.
this function is crucial in supporting the Minister with the development and promotion of key strategies and gives the unique opportunity to be at the heart of communicating the policies and initiatives of today’s government to the New Zealand public.
The ideal candidate will have a significant background in media, communications and/or public relations combined with a strong knowledge of issues and initiatives of importance to the Minister and his portfolio areas. Supporting the wider team is also crucial to ensure communications are clear, informative and timely. Knowledge of Te Reo M?ori and tikanga M?ori is desirable.
The function of Press Secretary requires you to move seamlessly through a range of complex material, where an eye for detail and the capability to communicate complex ideas to a variety of audiences, through a variety of channels is critical to success. The nature of this position requires a person to both anticipate a story before Information technology happens as well as to create the narrative.
With a highly attuned consciousness of both the media and the political landscape, you will be confident in writing speeches and press releases with a critical eye for risk.
Social media expertise are also highly desirable, with a savvy knowledge of this area a benefit.
You will be comfortable and confident interacting in a collegial way with members of the Minister's team, as well as a number of key internal and external stakeholders.
It is a necessary requirement of this function to hold a National Security Clearance. There are certain criteria that must be met in this regard.
