Howick Historical Village (HHV) is owned and operated by the Howick & Districts Historical Societyas a key heritage visitor attraction that tells the story of T?maki Makaurau / Auckland. Purpose of the function:
Howick Historical Village is going through an exciting time with a new vision and purpose. this function is a key driver to enacting these changes as we work to showcase our cultural heritage through the lens of our new Strategic Plan, available here.

As such, Howick Historical Village seeks to grow its profile as a centre of community life through volunteer activities and opportunities, as well as for our events and promotions. HHV aims be known as the go-to location for weddings, birthdays, business retreats, and other gatherings. The prosperous candidate will be passionate about facilitating success for all members of our community, from wedding parties to dedicated volunteers.

The prosperous candidate will be responsible for:
   »Events: developing, managing, and delivering events including weddings at Howick Historical Village. Regular tasks include liaising and managing vendors and clients. Creating an annual events strategy that aligns with the new Strategic Plan of the museum; and
   »Volunteers: recruiting, training, supporting, and nurturing a large team of volunteers for all functions necessary for the effective operation of HHV. Regular tasks include filling and maintaining a monthly volunteer roster, communicating information to the volunteer team, organising, training, and social events, recruiting new volunteers, planning, and managing community placements.

Some flexible working will be required to cover evening, weekend, and holiday events.

About you
Across both aspects of the position, you are practiced in knowledge and applying principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and honouring the Treaty of Waitangi particularly in sharing stories and information connected to M?ori culture and heritage.
   »Knowledge and practice
   »Events:
   » At least two years' practice working in the events industry.
   » Practice of knowledge and applying principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and honouring the Treaty of Waitangi particularly in sharing stories and information connected to M?ori culture and heritage.
   » practice of development and delivery of events.
   » Proven relationship building expertise and the capability to get results from working with a broad range of people and within a small team environment.
   » Excellent knowledge and practice of Microsoft applications.
   » practice within a museum, historic property, or heritage site preferable.
   » Interest in the Culture Heritage Sector.
   »Volunteers:
   » At least two years' practice working with and supporting volunteers in a people-focused environment.
   » An knowledge of the needs of volunteers and the training and support required to manage volunteers.
   » practice of development and delivery of training programmes.
   » practice within a museum, historic property, or heritage site desirable.
   » Knowledge of legal frameworks as they apply to volunteers desirable.
   » Knowledge of human resources desirable.
   »expertise and Abilities:
   » Excellent interpersonal expertise and capability to build strong working relationships with the volunteer team, staff team, and external partners.
   » Strong communication expertise - positive and professional manner.
   » Flexible approach to problem solving in a busy working environment.
   » Able to work autonomously, as well as in a team.
   » Excellent organisational expertise and capability to prioritise workload.
   » Pro-active and hard working.
   » Interest in and enthusiasm for volunteering in the cultural heritage sector.
