   » Do you have practice working in policy for children, and/or some of the policy areas that matter most for children’s wellbeing and poverty reduction?
   » Are you passionate about making New Zealand the best place in the world to be a child or young person, reducing child poverty, and improving equity of results, especially for M?ori and Pacific children?
   » Are you ready to take on a new and exciting challenge?
The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) is seeking a fixed-term Principal Analyst in our new Child Wellbeing and Poverty Reduction Group. We are pursuing an practiced analyst to advise on, and lead work on key policy areas and actions to support the Child and Youth Wellbeing Strategy and the Government’s child poverty targets.
Reporting to the Director, you will:
   » lead complex projects and programmes on matters within your portfolio
   » build the capcapability of the team, by coaching and mentoring team members to produce high quality advice and to enhance their knowledge, expertise and behaviours
   » lead and coordinate interagency and external collaboration, including influencing wider government policy development to support child wellbeing and poverty reduction objectives and representing the Group.
   » anticipate Ministers’ and Senior Officials’ requirements in order to deliver policy products that enable effective and timely decisions, and meet their responsibilities.
Our ideal candidate will bring:
   » A detailed knowledge of poverty analysis and measurement and/or knowledge of wellbeing frameworks, strategy, and measurement is highly desirable
   » A track record in presenting strategic policy advice that supports clear decision-making, in innovating to deal with problems, and building constructive relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders to achieve positive results. Strong intellectual expertise, and excellent written and oral communication expertise.
   » broad practice of the government environment and capability to navigate the complexity of policy and political considerations that need to be balanced in order to provide the best advice and solutions for Ministers
   » Strong public sector foundations, including a thorough knowledge of the obligations of the Crown under the Treaty of Waitangi and expectations of M?ori related to this work
   » practice leading others in developing evidence-informed policy and demonstrated capability to coach and mentor policy staff at all stages of the policy life-cycle
   » Effective planning and organisational expertise, including time management and prioritising work in a results-focused environment
   » Demonstrated capability to work in a high autonomy environment, dealing with high degrees of ambiguity and uncertainty, and exercising discretion and judgement.
   » A significant tertiary degree or an equivalent knowledge, expertise, and practice
