The Department of Paramedicine is undertaking Whakawhanaungatanga with local community members in Kaikohe to seek their input on the development of a new model of Kai?whina Hauora Hapori (Community Health Helpers). The function of the Kai?whina Hauora Hapori is to improve the community response to out-of-hospital cardiac arrest and ultimately improve cardiac arrest survival.
We are seeking to recruit a Project Manager who will work alongside Aroha Brett (Hato Hone, Kaimauaka – Clinical Advisor Hauora M?ori), and members of the Hato Hone M?ori responsiveness team (K?hui Mauaka). They will be responsible for coordinating and assisting with Whakawhanaungatanga to develop and expand local contacts in Kaikohe who can become local advisors to the research team. They will manage the development of a network of community members who would be contacted for future focus groups and interviews as part of the continuing development of the model.
The prosperous applicant would mainly work in the house ideally located in Auckland or Northland, and be willing to travel regularly (~once or twice a month) to Kaikohe. A key function of the function is to organise four hui in Kaikohe with local iwi, local health providers, existing community response groups, and hap? in this area. candidates must be organised, able to work independently, be flexible in their working hours and have excellent interpersonal expertise. A current driver’s licence and access to transport are also required.
Previous practice in building engagement and maintaining links with M?ori health providers will be an advantage. Competent in Te Reo M?ori me ona tikanga is desirable.
